Sh.Yuvraj,

The method adopted by you is perfectly in order. There is nothing wrong

in it. By NAAM JAP "KABIR" became "Sant"

OM Namah Shivaye

Dear Yuvraj, It is Shiva's grace that you can remember him all of the time. I

have heard in an internet lecture(mp3 file) that a few things are important for

japa and I am stating them here. (By the way I myself do not satisfy all these

conditions)

- Initiation into the mantra by a guru

- Remembering the mantra rishi (offering prostrations to him before your japa)

- Doing japa with mala at the same time and place/seat every day (ofcourse you

can continue your perpetual japa but keep a fixed time solely for this purpose)

- Chanting the mantra in the right way - neither too fast nor too slow

- Your love and devotion for the mantra and deity

regards,

OM Namah Shivaye

Yuvraj,

Lord shiva himself is our guru, he and his divine

kingdom will guide us in our spritual pursuit, so

continue what your heart tells you to do regarding

spiritual things, because divine communication comes

to us in the form of thougts, visions, dreams and

through other people and so on.

It is good if you find good Guru in your spiritual

pursuit, even if you do not find you can still pursue,

because Lord Shiva himself is the highest guru, If

lord Shiva wants he will lead you to proper guru and

spiritual people.

my two pence worth here.........

I find it extremely hard to transliterate the phonetics of Sanskrit words into

English. I have found that for the ones among us that like to have the

Sanskrit words spoken accurately, the best way is to find a local person that

has good knowledge of two languages in question and record their accurate

pronunciation.

I have always thought of putting some of the commonly used Mantras in some form

of audible format (probably MP3 as it seems to be pretty widely used these

days) but it has never come to fruition with me so far.

Maybe someone out there with a good pronunciation would want to take up the

challenge and record some of the commonly used Mantras........

Here is what I think are commonly used Mantras:

Om Namah Sivaya

MMJ

Gayatri Maha Mantra

If others can think of some more maybe we put them all together and among us we

can put together some accurate phonetics for those....

Kind regards

Anand

Here are some revelations about Guru:

1. Kabir

Guru and God both appear before me. To whom should I prostrate?

I bow before Guru who introduced God to me.

2. Brahmanda Purana

Guru is Shiva sans his three eyes,

Vishnu sans his four arms

Brahma sans his four heads.

He is parama Shiva himself in human form

3. Adi Shankara in his Gurustotram:

Guru Brahma Guru Vishnu Guru Devo Maheshwara

Guru Sakshath Parambrahma Tasmai Shri Gurave Namaha

This means: Guru is creator Brahma; Guru is preserver Vishnu;

Guru is also the destroyer Siva and he is the source of the

Absolute. I offer all my efforts to the Guru.

4. Starting with Shiva as Dakshinamoorthy, the Advaita Guru

parampara has the following successors:

nArAyaNa, padmabhuva (brahmA), vasishTha, Sakti, parASara,

vyAsa, Suka, gauDapAda, govinda bhagavatpAda, SankarAcArya,

padmapAda, hastAmalaka, toTaka, sureSvara (vArttikakAra),

and others.

A great article on the subject can be found at:

Sh.Yuvraj,

Your thought is perfectly in order. It is not mandatory to have a

Guru as advised by revered members of this group. The idea of getting

a Guru for necessary guidance shall be understood for its

insistence.

Most of the "mantra' we chant, are "Naada" (Sound) based, its correct

pronunciation renders joy to the mind. Secondly, the punctuation and

pausing shall be carefully understood. Thirdly, unlike

English "Sanskrit" and all Indian languages uses "Sandhi" (Joining of

two or more words to comply with the rules of grammar) and this shall

be kept in mind for proper pronunciation. If these things are

understood well, one need not go to any Guru.

The aforesaid explanation is in general. The most welcoming thought

by Spiritual scholars is that one need not bother for rules and shall

chant "mantras" with full freedom and happiness, believing Almighty

as ones Guru and Guide. This clears the mind from all doubts and

shall bring the bliss of the Lord. Most commonly committed mistake is

that one bothers more for the adherence of the rules and loses the

essence of deriving the pleasure of chanting the "mantra"

In "MahabharatEklavy" had become the able and best archer by

taking "Dronachary" as his Guru in his mind.
