Guest guest
believe it or not (and many don't), the laws of attraction can be extended to show that positive or negative energy can actually influence your health as well. This concept of positive energy flow and its impact on our lives is core to a number of Eastern spiritual philosophies. Judith Orloff, MD, author of numerous books including Positive Energy (Harmony) describes herself as an "energy psychiatrist." She is a board-certified psychiatrist and assistant clinical professor of psychiatry at UCLA. I called her to talk about the health implications of energy and how people can work with it to enhance their well-being. She explains that psychic energy -- called by various names, including chi, qi or prana -- exists in all of us on a subtle level, and we constantly receive and transmit its signals. In her practice, Dr. Orloff has watched time and again as positive energy creates good health... and negative energy creates exhaustion and disease ("dis-ease"). She has watched some of her patients suffering from chronic illnesses, such as fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue, improve once they learn how to work with their energy. CREATING POSITIVE LIFE FORCE Step 1: Observation. The first thing in any problem-solving challenge is to identify the problem. When aiming to create positive energy in your life, first you must observe and become aware of the energy that surrounds you. To get started, she says, you'll need to make a conscious effort to observe yourself on those days when you're feeling good, when you have reason to believe you are sending out positive energy signals. Notice the kinds of feelings this stirs within you and how other people respond to you. Do this consciously until your awareness of what your energy is at any given time, whether good or not so good, comes naturally to you. Once you have achieved that, it's time to take the next step, to shift your negative energy into positive. Step 2: Accentuate the positive. To create a positive flow, Dr. Orloff says to identify and build on areas that increase your good energy. You can enhance positive feelings about yourself and thus your energy by recognizing your fine qualities -- such things as compassion, humor, irreverence, insightfulness -- and focus on them rather than any fears you might carry about yourself. This is particularly useful when you are interacting with others, she says -- firmly establish a mindset focused on these strengths before you go into a group situation, and watch what happens. NEGATIVE ENERGY SELF-DEFENSE You also will need to find ways to protect your energy from negative influences. Probably the number-one rule is to deflect what she calls "energy vampires," those people who suck you dry with their needs. She identifies energy vampires as the victims of the world, the drama queens, the conversation hoggers, those who are quick to blame and put down others and the people who want someone to "fix" them. The only way to handle such personalities is to establish and maintain careful boundaries and limits. Be on the lookout for such people's negativity and excuse yourself from its presence quickly and firmly. According to Eckhart Tolle, author of The Power of Now (New World Library), the positive energy you emanate will in itself also help protect you from the "negative mental-emotional force fields" of other people. The reason, he says, is that negative fields -- those created by fear, anger, depression and the like -- vibrate at a much lower frequency than positive ones, and the high frequency of positive chi is difficult to intrude upon. LOVE YOURSELF Energy enhancement and protection also require taking good care of yourself. Exercise, of course, but Dr. Orloff points out that the type of exercise you choose can either contribute to your positive flow or actually take away from it. With so many types of exercise to choose from, experiment until you find an activity that intuitively works for you, something that leaves you feeling both energized and stronger. This is also what you should be seeking in other areas of your life, including your job, the way you socialize and your friends. Always look for people and situations that contribute to your positive feelings about you and your life. Finally, says Dr. Orloff, add to your positive field by picturing yourself as healthy and vibrant. Ideally you'll do this before you get sick to enhance the healthy state you are enjoying, but even if you wait until you are ill, picturing yourself in a state of wellness still can help. Seems awfully simplistic, doesn't it? So much so that there are those in my office who think that this article is not one that I should be publishing because it is so far-fetched. They may be right, they may be wrong. For me, I have seen and lived the power of positive energy and the impact negative energy can have on my health. It costs nothing to pay attention to the energies in your life and try to focus them in a positive way. See if it makes a difference for you and those around you. - >From "The Daily Health News" FareChase - Search multiple travel sites in one click. The Power of Positive Thinking by Norman Vincent Peale is one of the best-selling self-help books of all time. However, it took on a whole new meaning for me recently after watching a cult film entitled What the Bleep Do We Know? which talks about the laws of quantum physics and the power of energy to attract similar energies -- even, whether or not you believe it, to affect your health. We all know that smiles are contagious, as are bad moods. According to experts in the phenomenon of psychic energy, it's that energy -- not a smile, per se -- that attracts the good stuff from other people. In other words, like attracts like, and that includes energy.
