Guest guest
Sh.KC, Sri Rudram is derived from the Krishna Yajurveda, Taittariya Samhita in the fourth chapter. Its companion text, Chamakam, whic is found in the seventh chapter. The age of the text may be in the range of 3000 years. Like all Vedic texts it is pleasing to the ear moreover confounding to the intellect. The melody and rhythm are unique and comfortable for listening. Rudra is always known to be quickly pleased and through the praise contained in Sri Rudram the fierce Rudra would calm up and grant us every conceivable blessing as requested in the Chamakam hymn. There are several mantras found in Sri Rudram that are used to bring great peace and enlightenment. The Shri Rudram Chamakam is divided into Shri Rudram or Namakam, which describes aspects of Rudra Rudram is divided into 11 sections called Anuvakas. In the first Anuvaka, Rudra is asked to turn away his Ghora rupa (fierce appearance) and pleased to keep his and his followers' weapons at bay. Having been pacified so, Rudra is requested to destroy the sins of those who chant the mantra. Chamakam, the second part of the text, asks God for fulfillment of wishes. The repeated phrase, ca me literally means, "and to me [be this granted]", accompanied by lists of desirables. The prayer interprets that Vishnu is another aspect of Shiva accordingly holds Vishnu and Shiva are one and the same. Interestingly, the Vishnu sahasranama, in a similar manner, states Shiva is an aspect of Vishnu.
