must be aware the Annular solar eclipse is coming thisOctober first week. Do

not miss it. Because one round of mantra means

many many rounds of mantra during eclispse time. Do an intensesadhana to remove

some peedhas in your life and to burn your badkarmas.Srividya upasakas can make

best use of it.The eclipse occurs on October 3rd

Madrid, Spain. Date : October 3rd, 2005. First contact 09h40 A.M.(= 07:40 U.T.

) Mid-annularity 10h58 A.M. local daylight time ( =08:58 U.T.). Sun's

elevation 28.5 ° above southeastern horizon.

Annularity to last 4 good minutes in Madrid. - NASAMadrid in Spain will get an

excellent view of the solar eclipse.

(Annular solar eclipse looks something like this.)However pregnant ladies are

advised to remain indoors and not evenallow sunlight however feeble to enter

the rooms lest it affects thefoetus. If a child is born during solar eclipse.

He is said to have

no raasi astrologically but some astrolgers calculate it anyways. However if

he/she sets his mind he can become a great Tantric(I meanthe child born during

solar eclipse). This can be diverted toSrividya Tantra than nefarious Vamachara

Tantra(with unscruplulous

people)Also such children will be in high demand by Tantrics and sotherefore

please keep the horoscopes of your children born duringsolar eclipse secretive.

I have moved with some Keralite Tantreekacults so I know certain things here.

Rest is upto your goodselves.

The second solar eclipse of 2005 is confined to the EasternHemisphere. The track

of the annular eclipse crosses the IberianPeninsula and stretches across the

African continent. Europe, WesternAsia, the Middle East, India and most of

Africa will fall within the

Moon's penumbral shadow(Figure 4).The path of the annular eclipse begins in the

North Atlantic at 08:41UT where the Moon's antumbral shadow meets Earth and

forms 222kilometre wide corridor. Rushing southeast, the antumbra quickly

reaches the coast of Spain and Portugal (08:51 UT). At this location, the path is

195 kilometres wide and the central duration of theannular phase is 04m 07s.

Porto, Portugal lies just outside thesouthern limit of the central track and

will witness a partial

eclipse of magnitude 0.943 with the Sun 24° above the horizon.Bisecting the

Iberian Peninsula (Figure 5), the antumbra engulfsMadrid (08:56 UT) which lies

near the central line. The annular phasewill last 04m 11s from this capital

city with 90% of the Sun's

surface being obscured by the Moon. Along the Spanish Mediterraneancoast, the

city of Valencia also enjoys 03m 38s annular phase at asolar elevation of

32°.Isla de Ibiza straddles the northern path limit as the shadow crosses

the Western Mediterranean. Upon reaching the African continent,Algiers lies

within the shadow's trajectory (09:05 UT) and willexperience an annularity of

03m 51s with the Sun 36° high. Followinga southeastern course, the antumbra

passes through southern Tunisia

and central Libya where the Moon's umbral shadow will return sixmonths later

during the total eclipse of 2006 Mar 29. After brieflyskirting through northern

Chad, the antumbra sweeps across centralSudan where greatest eclipse occurs at

10:31:42 UT. The annular

duration is 4m 31s, the path width is 162 kilometres and the Sun is71° above the

desolate desert landscape. The central track runs along the southern

Sudanese-Ethiopian borderbefore entering northern Kenya where it engulfs much

of Lake Rudolf

(11:10 UT). The central duration here is still 4m 30s. SouthernmostSomalia is

the antumbra's final landfall (11:30 UT) before headingacross the Indian Ocean

where the path ends at local sunset (12:22UT). During its 3 hour 41 minute

flight across our planet, the Moon's

antumbra travels about 14,100 kilometres and covers 0.57% of theEarth's surface.

Partial phases of the eclipse are visible primarilyfrom Europe, Africa and

western Asia. Local circumstances for anumber of cities are given in Tables

4A-4D. All times are provided in

Universal Time. The Sun's altitude and azimuth, the eclipse magnitudeand

obscuration are all listed for the instant of maximum eclipse.Additional maps,

0.401 0.282All times are Universal Time'r' indicates eclipse in progress at

Saros series 134. The series began with

the first of ten partial eclipses on 1248 Jun 22. The first eightcentral

eclipses were total, which were then followed by sixteenhybrid events. The

first purely annular eclipse occurred on 1861 Jul08. After the last of thirty

annular eclipses (on 2384 May 21), the

series will produce seven more partial eclipses before ending on 2510Aug 06.I

have given the Table for various cities and timings of solareclipses clearly. I

have had number of enquries and lot of confusion

regarding the timings of the solar eclipse. Hope this suffices withregards to

timings.2005 Oct 17: Partial Lunar EclipseThe last event of the year is a

rather shallow partial eclipse of theMoon. The penumbral phase begins at 09:51

UT, but most observers will

not be able to visually detect the shadow until about 10:30 UT Atimetable for

the major phases of the eclipse is as follows: Penumbral Eclipse

Begins: 09:51:25 UTPartial Eclipse Begins: 11:33:59 UT

Greatest

Eclipse: 12:03:18 UT Partial Eclipse Ends:12:32:26 UT

Penumbral Eclipse Ends: 14:15:08 UTIn spite of the fact that the eclipse

is so shallow (the Moon'ssouthern limb dips just 2.2 arc-minutes into Earth's

dark umbralshadow), the partial phase last nearly one hour. This is due to

thegrazing geometry of the Moon and umbraAt the instant of greatest eclipse

(12:03 UT), the Moon will stand

near the zenith for observers in the central Pacific. At that time, the umbral

eclipse magnitude will be only 0.068. North Americans willall see the start of

the event, but the Moon sets by mid-eclipse forobservers east of the

Mississippi River and Great Lakes. Further

west, the entire event is visible from the Pacific coast provincesand states as

well as eastern Asia and Australia. The above is regarding Partial lunar

eclipse.Traditional advice is to be immersed in a river and chanting during

an eclipse to mitigate the negative effects, because mantrasperformed in water

have more power. But nowadays some ask, "Isn'tthis all superstition?"The word

eclipse in itself has foreboding indications, coming from

the Greek ekleipsis, meaning "failure to appear." A solar eclipseoccurs when the

Moon comes exactly in line between the Sun and Earth, obscuring or eclipsing the

light of the Sun from an area on the

planet. Some Rig Veda hymns refer to eclipses, which figure laterprominently in

the Mahabharata. Certainly in the absence ofknowledge, an eclipse is a

terrifying event. One of the earliestrecorded eclipses was in 2136 bce. The

Chinese Imperial Emperor Chung

K'ang was horrified to see the Sun disappear. His two courtastrologers, Hsi and

Ho, failed to predict it, so the necessarycountermeasures to make the Sun

return--e.g., shooting arrows at thesky, beating drums and shouting--were not

performed. Yet, the sun

returned quite on its own, casting royal doubt upon the usefulness ofHsi and Ho.

Both were summarily executed by the Imperial army. Tothis day, in many areas

loud noises are made to chase the moon awayduring

an eclipse.Eclipses have a known correlation with an increase in

earthquakes.Researchers speculate that the stronger gravitational force

generatedby the combined tidal force of the Sun and Moon pulling along the

same axis disturbs the crust of the Earth and sets the stage forearthquakes to

occur immediately or shortly thereafter. Recentexamples are the 6.4 quake which

took place near Mumbai on September29, 1993, the day of a lunar eclipse, and the

devastating 8.6 quakein Kobe, Japan, on January 20, 1995, again the day after an

eclipse. From the astrological point of view, the eclipse affects everyone onthe

planet, not just those in its visible path. The Hinduastrological treatise

Brihat Samhita is replete with gloomy

descriptions of what to expect from eclipses, depending on theparticular part of

the sky they appear in. It does offer some hope, though, for, "If within seven

days there should be a clear shower, there will be prosperity and peace in the

land, and anything untoward

due to the eclipse will be warded off completely."On a personal level,

astrologers see the zodiac sign in which theeclipse occurs as an area of

emphasis or possible crisis in theaffairs related to that house in an

individual's horoscope.

Astrologer Chakrapani Ullal explains it as "an obstruction of thelife forces" of

those energies governed by that house, an impactwhich can be compounded by other

aspects of the person's astrology.

For example, the February 26th eclipse is occurring in Aquarius, soif Aquarius

falls in the second house of your horoscope, it couldcause disruption in your

financial affairs. Or, if Aquarius lies inyour seventh house, relationships or

marriage could be debilitated.

Brihat Samhita asserts expiatory ceremonies can ward off potentialcalamities

that would otherwise befall the person or his family. Many astrologers believe

eclipses have a delayed impact, which islater triggered by the movements of the

planets. B.V. Raman advisesavoiding important events, especially marriages,

during certain daysin the six months following an eclipse. Those days are when

the moonis in the same nakshatra (constellation--satabhisha) as during the

eclipse. So, should you book a rock in the nearest river, instead of a suiteon a

cruise ship? Not because you're superstitious, of course, butbecause you don't

believe in taking chances. It's up to you. Many who

have experienced a total eclipse of the Sun can attest to the veryreal impact it

has upon the conscious mind, which seems to becometemporarily unhinged.

Astrologically, the impact depends upon yourown chart. Remedies are possible,

especially through intense sadhana,

spiritual effort, but few people these days have the time or will toreally

employ them. At least we can rest assured the Sun will returnon schedule--our

astronomers not wanting to risk the fate of Hsi andHo in ancient China.

One who drinks water early in the morning everyday after doing jap ofthe eight

lettered mantra. "aum namo Nãrãyanãya", 25 times, getsdelivered from all sins,

attains enlightenment and becomes free from

all diseases.A deserving sadhaka should do eight thousand jap of the above

mantratouching `Brahmi Ghrita' while observing a fast during a lunar orsolar

eclipse. The Brahmighrita is to be consumed after the eclipse

is over. This bestows the aspirant with enhanced power ofconcentration, ability

to compose poems and `vaak siddhi'. Brahmighrita can be got in Kottakal or

Impcops shop in India.Rules to be observed during an eclipse These have been

picked from

shastras and those who are inclined to believe in these may believeit. Some seem

frightening but they frighten people so that they do notdo mistakes not that it

will actually happen.A person who consumes food during eclipse goes to `Aruntud

Naraka'

and is doomed to remain there for as many years as the number of foodgrains he

has consumed during the eclipse. He suffers from stomachailments in his next

birth and is afflicted with a tumour in thebody, loses one of his eyes and then

all his teeth as

well. (Devi Bhagwata : 9:35. 11-13)One who consumes food earned by others

during a lunar or solareclipse loses all the virtues accumulated over a period

of twelveyears. (Skanda Purana, Prabhasa Khanda: 207. 11-

13)One who digs the ground during an earthquake or an eclipse earns sinsthat

entitle him to crippled body in his nextbirth. (Devi

Bhagwata: 9.10.28)WHEN THE gods and the demons churned the milky ocean in days

of yore,

nectar came out of it. Lord Vishnu assumed the form of Mohini, acharming lady,

deluded the demons and distributed the nectar onlyamong the gods. But Rahu had

disguised himself as a god. The sun andthe moon pointed this out to Mohini who

immediately slashed off the

demon's head. Since the nectar had by then already reached up to theneck, he did

not die. Thus the head came to be known as Rahu and thebody as Ketu. To avenge

this betrayal, Rahu and Ketu periodicallyeclipse the sun and the moon.

Astronomically speaking, when the sun, the moon and the earth are allin line,

with the moon or the earth at the centre, a solar or lunareclipse takes place

respectively. At the time of the eclipse, people bathe in the sacred rivers.

They

do charitable acts. They give cows, money and gold. The day after theeclipse

they feed the poor, the Brahmins and the Sadhus. After theeclipse they clean

their houses, vessels, etc., and take a bathbefore they start cooking.

One should not take food during the eclipse. When the eclipse beginsthe food

should by then have been digested. One should take food onlyafter seeing the

sun or the moon free from the eclipse. When the

clear sun or the moon is not seen before sunset or sunrise, in thecase of the

solar and lunar eclipse respectively, food can be takenonly after the sun or

the moon is seen the next day.Pregnant women should not see the sun or the moon

during the time of

the eclipse. If they do the child born may have some kind of defect. He may be

born deaf, dumb or blind. Householders are forbidden fromsexual intercourse on

the day of the eclipse, for the same reason.

At this time one should take great care in avoiding bleeding, scorpion stings,

etc. These have disastrous results. Even anearthworm has a poisonous effect

when it bites one during an eclipse. Those who do Japa at the time of the

eclipse derive great benefits.

The effect of Japa and Sankirtan during the eclipse contributestowards relieving

the suffering of humanity and also of the planets. These people receive the

blessings of the gods. They attainperfection quickly. Those who wish to tap the

subtle force locked in

the Mantra that will cure scorpion stings should stand in water andrepeat the

appropriate Mantra. The little intellect cannot understand many things in this

universe.Hence, have faith in the words of sages.

Ignorance has eclipsed Self-knowledge. However, this eclipse willdisappear. You

will shine in your own glory. This is the spiritualsignificance of the

eclipse. On the day of the eclipse, what is known as Tabij, can be made from

Bhoja Patra. Upon it words are written using as ink, Ashta-gandha orKesar or

Kasturi. After folding, it is tied with cotton thread. Usingdiya and dhoop for

puja the Tabij is powered (made potent) withMantras. Tabij that is prepared

during the actual time of eclipse is

most powerful and potent. Many types of Tabij are used, for businessor

profession, health, wealth- prosperity, success in exams, jobs, marriage,

romance, successful outcome of court cases, revenge, etc.Wrap the Tabij with a

red cloth or place in a copper container and

keep for two-three years. Detailed information can be had fromlearned

pundits.IMPORTANT WARNING: Permanent eye damage can result fromstaring or even

looking at the disk of the Sun directly, or through a

camera viewfinder, or with binoculars or a telescope even whenonly a thin

crescent of the Sun remains. The 1 percent of the Sun'ssurface still visible is

about 10,000 times brighter than the fullmoon.Staring at the Sun under such

circumstances have the same effect

on the retina of your eyes than a magnifying glass to focus sunlightonto paper,

and eventually burning a hole in it! The retina isdelicateand irreplaceable.

There is little or nothing a retinal surgeon will

beable to do to help you. Never look at the Sun outside of the totalphase of an

eclipse unless you have adequate protection.Remember, your eyes can be damaged

without you feeling any pain.Yours yogically,
