Guest guest
Mritunjaya Mahamantra explained Lord Shiva shall always be satisfied with Abhishek, without which Shiva "Pooja" is incomplete and unconsummated. While performing Abhishek chanting of Mrityunjay Mantra is advised. To get eternal happiness to the self and people around, who hears Mriyunjay mantra shall be uttered in rhythmic fashion as specified, keeping or remembering its meaning in the mind. To achieve best results Lord Shiva shall be worshipped on Mondays in particular. Maha Mrityunjay Mantra or otherwise called Mrita sanjeevini Mantra is bequeathed to us by the great Vasistha Maha Muni. It is written in "Anustup Chandah". It is composed off four lines and eight padaas in total. The Aumkar Shabd is added to this Maha Mantra at a later stage to enhance the power of Mantra by Rishis and scholars having authority. For best results it shall be chanted for a minimum number of 8000 in a "mandala" (Forty days). While worshipping Shiva in the morning hours it is advised to face the direction of east and in the evening hours to the north. Mrityunjaya Maha mantra: Aum Trayambakam Yajamahe Sugandhim Pustivardhanam Urvaarukamiva Bhandanat Mrityor Mukshiya mamrutat Meaning of Maha mantra: Aum: This is the beejakshar of Param Shiva which represents Sooshma sarir (Subtle body) of the Lord. Trayambakam: This Word was explained in different ways by learned scholars. Lord Shiva is having three eyes as moon, Sun and Fire (Eye on the fore head or Aagna Chakra). Traya means three and Ambak mean eye hence called Trayambakeshwar. He is also called with this name as he wiped off Tripuras. Param Guru Aadi Shankaracharya elucidated that Lord Shiva is the master of; Three Gunas; rajo, tamo and satva; Three Mandala Soma, Aaditya and Agni; Three lokaas (worlds) Bhu, Bhuva, Suvar loka; Three tatvas Aata, Vidya, Shiv tatva; Anava, karma, maya. In gist Lord Shiva is the bestower of salvation or deliverance, hence shall be remembered to start with. Yaja mahe: We pay tribute to you. This word shall be read in conjunction with the above. Sugandhim: Sugandh means fragrance or aroma. The effect of worship of Lord Shiva is compared with the fragrance that dives away Adharma from the individual and leads a disciplined life. Shiva's worship spreads aroma in all three gunas, ten indriyas to purify the soul from egoism, karma, Maya and bestows balance in pleasure and pain. Pushtivardhanam: Lord Shiva is the Sustainer too. For every living being to sustain food is essential, hence Shiva is food contributor. Artha (wealth) and Kama (Deeds) had taken together means Pushti. Lord Shiva's worship imparts knowledge for self realisation. Urvarukameva: Urva means vast, Expansive, big or large, where as Aruk means disease. These diseases are either of physical or mental (Shud varga, Tri guna etc) in nature. Shiva's worship will wash down these diseases and ease from the bondages of rebirth. Bandanat: This word shall be read in conjunction with the above. Badanat mean exclusion from all bondages. Mrityor Mukshiya: Saviour of premature deaths and relieve from the cycle of rebirths by granting Salvation. (Moksh) Maamritata: This word shall be read in conjunction with the above. Mamritat means O' Lord give me the nectar to alleviate me from the tedious cycles of rebirth and accord Jeevanmukti. Aum Namah Shivaya,
