Hello:<br>I would like to describe a common

method of processing Western Herbs, and then ask

opinions on the most reliable means of processing some

Eastern herbs.<br>To begin, in the West, an Herb is

either fermented, with the alcohol distilled off

(purified) or wine alcohol is distilled several times and

substituted as the plants "mercury"--that is spirit. The

plant is then macerated in the alcohol to extract the

"sulfur"--or soul, which includes its essential oils, and or

phytochemicals. The remaining plant is filtered from the

extraction, dried, and incinerated. The ash is submerged in

water (rain) and filtered. The filtered solution is

evaporated producing the salt--purified body of the plant,

which is then dissolved into the liquor. Someimes these

extractions are done with other materials, like glycerine, or

acetic acid solution. <br>I'm beginning work with Amla,

Triphala, Brahmi and Arjuna, and would like to hear some

suggestions on the techniques that you use, other than

decoctions. <br>I have another question, if I extract with

Ghee (similar to Western glycerine extraction) what

becomes of the residue that is filtered off? <br>Arjuna

is very important at this time, as I know someone

taking a decoction to strengthen the heart, but I'd like

to process this plant to enhance its effects as best

as possible.<br>Thank you.
