Guest guest Posted April 26, 2006 Report Share Posted April 26, 2006 India to help set up Indian Studies Centre in Tashkent Tashkent, April 26 (PTI): Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today announced that India would assist in the establishment of a Centre of Indian studies proposed to be named after Mahatma Gandhi at the Institute of Oriental Studies in the Uzbekistan's capital. Interacting with the prominent Indologists here, Singh also invited them to India to build linkages with Indian academics and research institutions which would make a lasting contribution. "The Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies has important programmes of studies and research on subjects releated to our country. Recognising their value and contributions I am pleased. We will assist in creation of Centre of Indian Studies at the Institute of Oriental Studies, which I propose may be named after Mahatma Gandhi," Singh said. He said that Tashkent for long time been as centre of studies of Indian languages and history and many prominent scholars have dedicated their life to study and reserach about India.
