Guest guest
I have been doing Yoga for about 1 year now and I love it! I noticed that I have been getting headaches when I do some of the asanas, namely camel- childs pose, bow, when I asked my yoga instructor, she told me that my body was probably going thru a "change". Not "THE change" but a change- presently I am 45 and "THE" change is immenient. The headaches starts in the front lobe and last for a few seconds, but I feel sick- I don't have high blood pressure, I usually have normal to low- I am in realtively good shape, except the occasional cold, allergies. I excersize by walking, I meditate, and I do yoga three to four days a week. I try to get rest- it can sometimes be alittle difficult I have two teenagers ages 15 and 18 and I usually wait up for them to come home ( which can be nerve wrecking) ( one is usually driving so that is always stress) I do not take any medication other than a colon cleanse, aloe vera juice, probiotics, and vitamins. Is there anyone who can explain this to me??

Camel pose puts your neck in one of the more "extreme backward" positions for the neck. I would tend to agree with your teacher and your body is going through "changes'. However, I think you should try doing neti pot before your class and in the morning. Maybe a naysa also. The vaidyas here would know more about that than i do. I think your sinuses are feeling the effects of these exercises. Let me know how it works. One suggestion I have is that neti pots can often be expensive. Just go to a garden store or a "big box" store and get a watering pitcher. make sure the end of the nozzle is small enough to fit in your nostils. Let me know how it works. Guest guest
Thank you for answering me- my teacher said that maybe I have problems with my sinuses. I have a netti pot and I don't use it as much as I should- I also have allergies, -I try to do alternate breathing- air in one nostril, hold , and let out the other, as part of my yoga ritual, but my nose is always "stuffed" and only one side has air- one side is always better than the other- so I get very frustrated because I can't "breathe" and I stop this exercise. Would the netti pot help this?? Also do you recommend a full body cleanse to help clean out all the allergens- Elle - Guru Khalsa <ayurveda> Re: Headaches during Yoga?? Guest guest
elle please avoid all dairy, flour and sugar for a period of 3-4 weeks, and then avoid it mostly thereafter i expect that you should get some relief from this, but you might also want to take some herbs/supplements to help please read: http://www.toddcaldecott.com/hayfever.html bear in mind that many folks with chronic sinus problems have a recurrent fungal infection, for which you need to follow a strict candida type diet, as above i would suggest NOT using the neti pot yet because the water won't drain out properly and in trying to get the water out you might force it into the eustachian tube or sinuses nasya however, is indicated, as long as you don't have any active inflammation - 2 drops of sesame oil or better yet anu tailam, snorted into each nostril - you might find it a little unpleasant, with a burning sensation in the nasopharynx but this will be followed by the easy expectoration of mucus - do this periodically and when you are feeling clear you can try the neti again best... todd caldecott ayurveda, Ellen Schueler Wenz <hushpup wrote: > > Thank you for answering me- my teacher said that maybe I have problems with my sinuses. Guest guest
Ellen, Ellen, I think you should definitely do the neti pot. Use lukewarm water with about 1 tsp. salt per 1 quart of water. A nasya may also help. These vaidyas on this forum can probably help you get the right one. Keep up with the alternate nostil breathing. One way to open up the closed nostil is to lay on the opposite side of the closed nostil. When you go to sleep, it is best to sleep either on your back or on your right side. The right side of the body is the sun, yang, father, positive (as in a battery), energetic side. The left is the moon, yin, mother, negative, passive side. Whichever nostil is open is the one that has the energy of that side of the body. For most people, the body automatically changes the predominance of the breathing to the opposite nostil. This change occurs every 2 and 1/2 hours. body will become more energized breathing out of the right nostil and more relaxed breathing pout of the left. You need to keep both nostils open for the balance and for the change to manifest completely. I you are interested in a full body cleanse, these other vaidyas can probably help. Provide some more information about your symptoms, state of mind and body. I can say that it is best to stay away from chemicals and eat lots of fruits and veggies. Cut down on dairy and hard to digest foods and sugars. GB Re: Headaches during Yoga?? Thank you for answering me- my teacher said that maybe I have problems with my sinuses. First of all, neti water, if proper temperature and salt content does not give any trouble. On the other hand it gives very enjoyable fomentation to sinuses, taking care of any infections present therein (personal experience). If it does not drain out properly, just bending down the head in a standing position drains it. Even if remains inside does not cause any problems. Only one precaution. No cold water bath after neti, only hot water bath OK. Breathing done after taking neti gives amzing absorption of Prana at Shringatak Marma. After 15 years of daily Neti, and neti is what attracted author to systematic study of ayurveda 30 years ago, author feels that discouraging someone against Neti (who is guided by local Guru) should not be done. Giving at least 30 minutes gap between Neti and Nasya is essential, if dointg both. Spending some time in early morning sunlight, wind may dry up nasal passages, so that Nasya oil does not coagulate. Previous Neti is beneficial for better absorption of Nasya oil. > nasya however, is indicated, as long as you don't have any active > inflammation - 2 drops of sesame oil or better yet anu tailam, > snorted into each nostril - you might find it a little unpleasant, > with a burning sensation in the nasopharynx but this will be followed > by the easy expectoration of mucus - do this periodically and when > you are feeling clear you can try the neti again Beg to differ here. Nasya can be undertaken even for inflamation, but then specially prepared Nasya is needed. Anu Taila also OK. More on Nasya soon. In highly commercialized ayurveda these days, Neti and Nasya are inexpensive remedies for wide ranging diseases of CNS from epilepsy, MS, Bipolar, to Alzeimers, dementia etc. These techniques are not being widely diseminated due to commercial interests! If a CNS disease, which takes two years of medicine, if rapidly cures in say 6 months, the income is reduced. dr bhate
Guest guest
I usually perform neti by taking neti water through mouth and expelling it through nose via throat. I find this method easier to perform. I wanted to know the views of the experts whether it is one of a "correct" way to perform neti or not. Thanks. Guest guest
Dear Abbas ji I am not agree with this way because Yoga does not allow to perform this way . Neti is done for cleaness of nostrils and the inner path of breathing thru nose. U may get worse when u takes water thru mouth and expelling thru nose . gunjan Abbas Ali Siddiqui <abbasasi wrote: I usually perform neti by taking neti water through mouth and expelling it through nose via throat.
