Guest guest
A general perspective on swelling is given at: http://health.ayurveda/messages/3542 It is surprising that at your father's age, previous bye-pass surgery, standing job, he is able to take up subsequent walk. This may be possible only due to Pranayama. These indicate that the feet/leg swellings and cramps are due to inadequate circulation, as a result of reduced pumping by heart. Under the circumstances, one should focus the treatment on heart as well as enriching the blood, its purification, and circulation. taking into account these, this author would recommend following for a period of 15 days, if patient was sitting across the table and no further info was available. 1. Aarogyavardhini Ras: 2 tabs after food, slight chew and swallow with water/buttermilk (should not be sour) [Total 4 Tabs per day] 2. Punarnava Mandur: 2 tabs, in same way after food 3. Arjunarishtam: 20 ml with equal water added, after food 4. Samir Pannag Ras: 2 pinches mixed in 1 tsp honey, take after breakfast and at bedtime. Many more specific medications exist in ayurveda, but should not be discussed across the net, without seeing the patients energy levels etc. Even in this case, it would help if you start with just first three and add 4th medicine only after 15 days, if father does not feel any weakness. The swelling is now across the legs too, indicating the poorness of circulation is more. Since cramps develop at night, it is desirable that dinner is kept light, say Khitchri of green gram dhal. If you get indian cow ghee, use it without any hesitation. If you can give leafy vegetable soup in dinner, that would help. A yellow skin banana will also helpful as a source of pottasium. 1 hour difference between dinner and bedtime is desirable. In case he is under any diuretics at present, do not follow what is written here. The raising of legs in night (as suggested by GB) will definitely help. Similarly Sea salr and epsom salt bath as suggested in Message no. 6367 can help. Many recommendations can be given, but just adopt what is feasible in his case. Please treat this as an informative or educative post and your nearest ayurvedic vaidya should be looking after his treatment. IF breathing difficulty is experienced, consult nearest Vaidya. dr bhate ayurveda, p s <tightbrwn76 wrote: > > Hi, > > My father at age 69, is experiencing some issues with his health lately more so. > He's had a bypass surgery about 10 years ago and as such had to have some veins from legs move to the heart area. > > Now, he still works a lot and has a job that keeps him standing for 4-7 hours a day.
