Cybervaidya --------- Let's see if cow's urine, dung are good for us Wednesday, March 22, 2006 Karnataka govt has asked Veterinary University to substantiate ancient beliefs about their medicinal benefits - Usman Merchant Bangalore: After the Madhya Pradesh government's decision to sell cow's urine through co-operative dairy milk booths, the Karnataka government in which the BJP is the major partner has announced that it will facilitate research on the medicinal benefits of gomutra. The first budget presented by the coalition government on Monday ear marked Rs 25 lakh for promoting research in this field. Animal husbandry minister and senior BJP leader V.S Acharya told Mumbai Mirror that scientists at the Karnataka Veterinary University will be asked to conduct research to verify scientifically the medicinal benefits of cow's urine and cow dung. "It is a long held belief in our country that cow's urine has medicinal benefits. What we want to do is to try and substantiate this belief with scientific backing. There is a strong demand from among a section of the people to promote gomutra and its curative properties. Hence we decided to undertake the project", he explained. The government has also allocated Rs 2.70 crore for protection and development of local breeds of cattle. Under this programme 20 acres of land in each district will be leased to any person or agency who is interested in development of cattle breeds.
