Guest guest
Anyone who wants the addresses of group members in a public forum is very suspecious to me. Most people who would want such a list is probably looking for addresses so they can spam the members, trying to sell something. Or perhaps they would like to sell such a list to others. Since all members can be contacted by personal mail why would a list be more useful except for spamming purposes. If someone writes me from the groups I belong to I simply delete and ignore them. Many people monitor this and other groups for educational and other reasons and are not interested in recieving personal mails of any kind. For me this is not a social forum for making friends, etc. Please do not give my address to people who's motives for wanting my address is suspect, and do not expose us to salesmen that we are not interested in. To sell or give contact information of those who have not given permission is not ethical.
Guest guest
Dear lizahallny, Rest assured that your email won't be given away by the moderators to anybody. Infact the moderators are trying their level best to avoid spam. However as per policy you can hide your email only if you are not going to post any message. This is most probably to prevent unsolicited messages. As far as ayurveda is concerned if you only want to read the messages you can do so even when not receiving them in your mail. For this set your email option to no email, and 'hide my email address' in the 'edit my membership' section. This way your email won't be exposed anywhere. Having said that I think you have mis-interpreted the intention of the person posting the message. The primary aim of the group is also to help peole finf professional help nearby where they stay. Instead of a person posting a message everytime to ask for such information, if we have a database where professionals from ayurveda and yoga or related topics provide their contact information it would be easier for a person searching for such information. They need not neccasarily provide email, but could provide web-pages or web-sits linking to them. In ayurveda we have 2 resources for this. One is the database section and the other personal website folder in the links section. I only posted because the person asking for the list asked for each and every members address and I did not want to be included. I know that many physicians in India are trying to supplement their income by selling products on the side. This is fine with me but it would be a big headache if every person selling Ayurveda products spammed the members of this list. I have seen groups taken over by these spammers. Ayurvedaonline has been fairly good at keeping the business side of Ayurveda out of the group. Ayurvedic products are freely available in the Internet but a discussion group could easily be spoiled by these commercial interests. Any physician can be listed on professional directories. Guest guest
Thanks for your reassurances - my teacher Dr. Kumar has answered about our concerns. Spam has become a big problem because one does not have time to seperate the good mail from the bad mail.
