Guest guest
The discussion on Vatic obesity, and especially the balance in the diet, has inspired a series of posts by this author. Indians invented zero and gave birth to Mathematics. The science of self realization etc also is credited to Indians. Some of the ayurvedic thinking rhymes with these philosophies. Thus absolute zero is absence of everything. Disease is absence of equilibrium and health is equilibrium. All equilibrium equations in science end with a zero, and for self realization one must realize this zero, internal center. Conventional medicine has made one fundamental misconception that thousands of different diseases exist, all with varied causes demanding different diagnostic methods and treatments. This is the method used by blind men to find how elephant is. The controversies in diets is just one example. This has led scientists down the flawed path of categorizing symptoms as disease when symptoms are the intelligent warning signals of disease. In a way, most of alternative theories too have followed similar path of classifying diseases in groups. Thus in ayurveda too we have different disease conditions, symptoms, corresponding treatments, but ayurveda tries to categorise common group of diseases and offer corresponding grouped treatments. Pattern recognition and cognitive intelligence of acharyas made this possible. Their obsevrations that particular diseases exacerbated in a particular season would have contributed to humors being assumed corresponding to three main seasons. The humors of the body, their imbalance and corresponding set of symptoms are defined for easy grasping the treatment modalities. Though one disease may have ten herbs/formulations to use, one herb/formulation also tackles ten different disease, at least partially. For instance, oil massage, ingestion, insufflation (Basti) etc are commonly used for Vatic disorders; these disorders are connected to planet Saturn and oil is the medium to placate Saturn. The philosophical traits and similarities of Saturn and Vatic diseases (slow progress, Vata taking place of vaccum created by dhatus, Saturn is ascetic and does not waste dhatus by observing celibacy etc) are notable. Saturn is physically disabled and therefore Vatic diseases either do not allow proper walk or sit with straight spine and neck. Vatic diseases are most difficult to cure completely, and some residual disease leaves its mark, hence termed "Karmic" too. Classic texts mention that a Vaidya should not keep patient in dark under false hopes and tell the patient right away. Some text even goest to the extent do not treat such a patient. Leave him to fate. Or offer some palliative treatment at best. Author has written in a number of posts, a certain disease is being termed "curable". Though only particular diseases were termed curable, he goes one step further saying that every disease is curable with a pinch of bitter spice that some karmic residue will have to be accepted. In a series of posts, the author will discuss inner secrets of the body and how to obtain best of health while wiping away every disease, no matter how serious, how chronic and how deadly. Whether caused by chemical diet or iatrogenesis. This is first post in this series, and is introductory nature. Here we learn body as a complete universe representing both micro and macrocosm. Some of the material is from author's Gurus. Some thing he too has added. He rephrased it in the language of science, to make it easy for understanding by non-ayurveds also. While there are regulatory agencies and big pharma trying to impede the progress of the new world alternative health theories, author would like to steer the discussion away from such controversies. Does it really matter whether regulatory agencies are attempting suppressing alternative science? Is it possible? A good science will always grow. Health freedom, diet freedom, herbal freedom and simplistic naturopathy techniques no organization can suppress. To suppress such things, they will need a police force larger than the present population! To cite an example, despite Government banning common sea salt for consumption, same salt is available under the label 'Industrial purposes, non-edible' and population has started buying it, at a slightly higher price though. Hence, as long as producer and consumer find some way, regulatory agency becomes a puppet only. Author strongly believes that for obtaining health one need not use any drugs, herbs or therapies specifically belonging to one discipline. All siblings of alternative theories unite into unified thinking when naturopathy is approached, the mother of all theories. Naturopathy existed even before the age of Ayurveda or Vedas. God has given a means of maintaing ideal health to each specie. Author has always advocated no medicine approach. Body knows nothing but health, if left to itself without forcing it to exhibit the behaviour observed in drug trials or documented by experience. Since every individual is unique, so is his treatment or his roadmap to absolute health. Here we need to define health. While modern science throws a series of tests and corresponding numerical results and reference ranges, ayurveda offers following definition: Balanced Doshas (humours), healthy Agni, a good state of tissues and their metabolic end- products lead to a balanced state of the senses, mind and spirit, all of which lead to health. [http://www.allayurveda.com/princ_mala.htm] This definition is not satisfactory to author, since again a practitioner comes into picture to judge the extent of doshas. But if we interpret the words properly, one needs to note the word "balance". This balance or equilibrium, let us try to understand its meaning in modern science terms so that even non- ayurvedic background people understand. Indian spiritual Gurus and philosophers have treated body as microcosm and universe as macrocosm. This same relationship science extends to cell as microcosm and body as macrocosm. The factors underlying the degenerative and metabolic disease process so prevalent today can be understood by studying the inner workings of the cell. All life begins at the cell, is maintained by the cell, and ceases by the cell. our cells are pretty much the bricks and mortar from which all living tissues and organs are made. Each cell performs different responsibilities, depending on what type of cell it is. Ayurvedia terms the cell and units as koshas, strotas etc. In a complex macrocosm of over 100 trillion cells, the body is made of at least 200 different cell types. For instance, brain cells, skin cells, kidney cells, muscle cells, bone cells, nerve cells, and so forth. All of the body's cells perform unique functions and synergistically orchestrate the body's function capacity as a whole. We cannot separate these cells any more than we can separate organs or systems without suffering consequences. The problem with modern medical science is they've compartmentalized the body into a bunch of automobile parts which has led to the training of specialty fields teaching that the cells, organs, and systems all work separately. we cannot segregate or isolate any of the cells, organs, systems, or even nutrients for that matter. They all work in synergy like a synchronized orchestra. As long as there exists synergy, health is the result. This synergy is what ayurveda calls equilibrium or balance. The equilibrium between not only the cells of individual being, but that between all species is the creation of the creator. Moment one specie tries to dominate by its power, the seeds of its destruction are automatically sowed. The disease caused by affluence or excess materialism can be cited as mechanism of wiping off one specie. Compare this with collection of humans on earth. As long as there is love, co-operation, mutual help to satisfy needs, health of society is certain. On the other hand, moment profit motive, self interests come in to picture, diseases such as terrorism, corruption, mass killings (often secretly through drugs, chemical weapons) results, a global disease of earth. This is the reason that author believes that ayurvedists need not spend time and energy in exposing deficiencies of main stream practitioners. They, along with Pharma, will destoy themselves. One way our immune system fights infectious organisms is by surrounding them by antibodies. In the same manner, if all alternative practitioners surround and out-number mainstream, mainstream has no option but to strangle itself. Or improve itself by compulsory fasting. They can of course reform themselves, We must give the opportunity to everyone. In order that each micro unit of the body perform well, it has to have proper nutrition and other requirements to remain in balance with the environment A. Chemical components of nutrition: 1. 24 amino acids. 2. Carbohydrates or glycogen. 3. Essential Fatty Acids. 4. vitamins. 5. minerals. 6. Enzymes (catalysts which make everything else work). 7. Phytonutrients (pro-oxidants instead of antioxidants coming from green plants which have the chlorophyll). B. Energy components of nutrition 8. Sunshine or photon light (electromagnetic pulse waves which come from the sun). 9. Glyconutrients (essential glycosugars and glycolipids needed for cellular communication). 10. Oxygen. 11. Water (elecrolyte) To understand how deficiency of nutrition can effect cellular function, let us take examples. The cells need over 100-plus nutrients in eleven different categories to run cellular processes. Let's say we have 30 nutrients out of 45 needed at a beta cell site to produce insulin. The cell will sit there and wait for the next meal to complete the extra 15 nutrients needed to synthesize the insulin. If there's a deficiency, it will wait to complete the nutrient recipe or synthesize inferior insulin. The sources of craving when diet is deficient in some nutrient can be understood now. Another cell might be a brain cell needing 40 nutrients to produce serotonin. If it's not at the cell site or if the cell membrane is solidified, caked up with toxins, or hardened with hydrogenated fats, obviously that would be a factor in the cell not being able to receive the intelligent nutrients or electrical impulse needed to produce serotonin. The nutritional components needed for brain cells may be understood from some ayurveda messages: 435, 504, 598, 629, 1680, 1980, 2578, 3036, 3066, 3812, 3820, 4030 and many more wherein the correlation between food and intelligence of cells is discussed. If it's a liver cell that produces bile, it's the same thing. If the liver cell doesn't have the recipe of the nutrients out of the 100- plus, the cell will sit there and wait for the next meal. Hopefully we'll be smart enough to complete the cellular recipe for the building material in order to make the bile. So every hormone, neurotransmitter, peptide, and substance such as ATP for energy, is actually built on a recipe or a synergy of different nutrients from those eleven categories just listed. Every cell, whether it's a nerve cell or a muscle cell or a brain cell, is analogous to us as a whole in a microcosm. For instance, we have to breathe oxygen -- cells have to breathe oxygen. We communicate -- cells communicate in four different languages. They communicate in electromagnetic language, neurotransmitter language, hormonal language, and electrochemical language, which would be a combination of brain and the muscle. We have internal organs -- our cells have internal organs called organelles or genetic material. We have skin -- our cells have skin called semi-permeable membrane to protect the inside of the cell from damage due to free radicals. We conceive children -- cells actually conceive by splitting and dividing into new cell generations called daughter cells. We produce waste -- cells produce and release waste which has to be eliminated from the body via the skin, colon and urine. We need photon light from the sun -- every cell of the body needs photon light from the sun for cellular communication which creates the electromagnetic energy to light up the cell like a light bulb. We harness the micro- electric current energy coming from the sun through photosynthesis -- cells harness micro-electric voltage inside the cell, in the mitochondria which produces the ATP; the energy factories for every cell. Cells are also manufacturing plants that synthesize hormones, neurotransmitters, proteins, peptides and intelligent life force to run all the body's functions. So if we look at the correlation between a human and a cell, we have 100 trillion tiny cellular engines that are analogous of a human that performs different functions. Cells are multifaceted. Some act as miniature electrical generators, like lithium batteries. New Age calls it aura but every human being produces energy that can be measured by Kirlian photography. All of our cells store, repair, communicate, and transport. Every second of every day our cells are involved with waste disposal, food production, temperature control, and pH balancing to maintain health and vitality all cellular functions are dependant on the iron rules Health. This is too much a diet for the day. The post will be continued next week. Dr Bhate
Guest guest
I hope we get at least twelve parts of this excellent discussion. We have to present solutions to all the seemingly "incurable" maladies afflicting us today. The weaknesses of the other systems are our strengths, as we build from the base and don't take recourse to stop- gap formula's.
