Guest guest
I had heard about this ayurvedic treatment as "kuti pravesh" and was wondering what it was. Then a news channel informed that it was "kutir pravesh", a treatment taking 240 days of which 40 days had to be spent in a mud hut (kutir) in isolation so that one lost all sense of time. It seems this makes one much younger. Does anyone have full details on this please?

Guest guest
kutipraveshikam takes about 30-40 days if its 240 days then 200 days or a portion of this is probably vatathapitakam, in which a specific class of rasayana therapy is given without the restrictions of living in a hut all by oneself of course the above follows pancha karma so this time would need to be factored in as well also, its not necesary to put limits on vatathapitakam - some people may need to take such remedies for many years for maximum benefit - but the pancha karma and kutipraveshikam usually follow specific schedules, depending on the treatments i would like to know if there is any scientific research into the benefits of kutipraveshikam - someone was telling me that there was some in kerala, but perhaps it wasn't formal or hasn't been published in english - anyone know? best.. todd > I had heard about this ayurvedic treatment as "kuti pravesh" and was > wondering what it was. Guest guest
Long panch karma, diet treatments, can detoxify body. Ancient acharyas recognised balance of body and mind both for ideal health. For mind detoxification, spending time in seclusion was necessary which can be compared to fasting for body, thoughtless state being equivalent state for the mind. With minimum food body is not taxed energy-wise much. (High glucose and anxiety are comparable on this point). One technique mentions eating just one amalki (big size) fruit per day. 40 Amalaki fruits are prepared by burrying them inside the bark of a Kahir tree. One fruit is removed per day for consumption. The Kutir is dark totally except for entrance door, which remains closed for 40 days. Ayurveda and sister discipline astrology are both considered su-fields (Upangas) of Vedas. Hence it was common to find acharyas equally versed in both. 40 days period for Kutir Pravesha arises from passage of "Sun" representing "soul" in three nakshatras (stars spanning 13.333 degrees of Zodiac each). Three consecutive nakshatras have three different nadis (Aadya, Madhya, Antya as per astrology) which represent three doshas and three Gunas too. Moreover, Sun passes through twelve signs in Navamsa in 40 days, completing one full zodiac in Navamsa. Navamsa chart is the chart for soul, without which a south indian chart is considered incomplete, and a yoga seen in natal chart is considered ineffective unless it repeats in Navamsa too. THus in 40 days, purification of soul too is achieved. since one does not see light, the effect of moon is minimised, calming the jumping mind, and also hormones, which are principally driven by moon. Moon makes more than one full zodiac orbit in 40 days. Effect of being in total dark is mentioned in texts and can be experienced by women on their menses. This subject requires another lengthy posts, therefor pruned here. Returning to Kutir Pravesh, the 40 days seclusion effects on rejuvenation of body and mind can only be extrapolated, if one does a 10 day Vipassana meditation course, where total silence is observed, if not seclusion. Permanent cure of hypertension was achieved for several executives in just 10 days! Many considerations under the ayurvedic procedures, choice of herbs etc is governed by spiritual part of ayurveda and not rules of material world. When one studies procedures/timings/prayers for collection of herbal parts etc convince us that ayurveda is distinct from all other "alternative" pathies.
