Mangosteen for Health

everybody needs to develop a kind of reality sensor when it comes to assessing

new

products and the marketing hype that surrounds it

there is of course a relatively new mangosteen juice product on the market

(although its

not only mangosteen) that is being touted as the next big thing - while i don't

have any

complaints with it, the reality is that it is an expensive product that can't

live up to the

hype that surrounds it

in my opinion, mangosteens are a delicious and excellent food, like so many

other fruits,

and the best way to get all of them is to eat them fresh - just like you might

prefer fresh

carrot juice over canned carrot juice

if mangosteens are locally available then please eat them (on an empty stomach!)

but if not, the benefit you get from drinking the bottled stuff is probably

proportional to

the amount you can afford to budget for it - otherwise, find cheaper,

organically-grown

local fruits and juice them fresh, in season

if you want, do the research and then you too can celebrate whatever class of

antioxidant

chemical found in them, be it ellagic acid strawberries, anthocyanadins in

blueberries, or

beta carotene in carrots

Any input from our Vaidyas?

These commercial drinks, Mangosteen being the latest here, before that Goji, and

before that Noni, are all very expensive and the first day I found the

mangosteen juice in my wholesaler @ over $60 for 750 ml I found fresh Mangosteen

in the Chinese grocer for $7.95 a kg - having never hear of them before - very

difficult to open though! You need a chain saw!

yeah, its pretty crazy the way marketing works

one of the most powerful tools for communication, but almost without exception

used to

serve a very narow version of a half truth - health does not depend upon a

mangosteen!!

regarding mangosteens, you really need to crack them open, with your hands or

perhaps a

blunt object - too fibrous to try to cut or saw them

also, maybe the ones you found were a little old perhaps?
