hi jane

this herb is not used in ayurveda, but a related and similarly used cimicifuga

(syn actaea)

is used in TCM, so might look to these sources for more inspiration

basically, it is a potentially toxic herb that reduces vata and kapha

used in pain and atonic states, but avoided in sx of heat

more commonly thought as a "woman's" herb for uterine spasm and more recently

hot

flashes, its antispasmodic properties make it an excellent in any kind of

muscular or

rheumatic pain, as well as spasmodic states like epilepsy

Hi Jane;

Cohosh being estrogenic tends to increase pitta ... I was not able to

use it during menopause except on rare occasions, as my pitta was too

high. This is common among women in this country, by the way ... high

pitta. Note that many of the herbs used in Susan Weed's herbal for

menopause are the green leafy mineral rich astringent and bitter ones

which ... reduce pitta.

I too would like to hear more Ayurvedic commentary about it!
