ear wax

I am wondering about how ear wax is considered according to Ayurveda

theory. I recently tried ear candling technique on myself, which reminded

me of the technique I observed before in Chinese medicine clinic which was

to blow smoke into the ears of chronic ear ache patients. This ear

candling I am wondering if there is something like it in Ayruvedic

practice. Basically the smoke it blown into the ears and accumulated wax

is removed up into the candle. I know that the Ear is crossed by San Jiao

& Gallbladder channels according to TCM theory and that Damp Heat can

easily accumulate there. I am wondering in theory or in clinical

observation if it is experienced that therefore ear wax removal via this

method is helpful for gall bladder patients.

Cory,

I tried candling before and I can just tell you my experience. I tend

to be vata. Candling just seemed to dry my ear canal more. I think

that if someone has a lot of moisture (i.e. kapha), or possibly a lot

ear drainage, it might be okay. If someone has some earwax that is

hard and dry, then it would dry it out more. I would think that the

traditional use of half hydrogen peroxide and half warm water using an

ear syringe would work better.
