Guest guest
Was reading your post regarding your answer on Eczema/Ashtma. My 6 month old girl has been having eczema and some breathing problems last 4 months. She is totally breast fed till now. What amount of FLAX see oil in my diet will help my baby and how soon can I see if it is working? I am a vegetarian and so I do not want the fish oil. She is also allergic to nuts. I have eliminated nuts totally from my diet. She is a little better but still keeps scratching herself and breaks out in rashes. She is not allergic to milk/soy/wheat. Please help. Thanks
Guest guest
dear mypappuslaya to get the necessary amount of omega 3 fatty acids i would suggest approx. 2-3 tbsp of flax, hemp or perilla oil a day - to get your DHA you can try neuromins, since there is no readily available vegetarian source - 2-3 caps a day should be sufficient regarding your comments, how do you know she isn't allergic to wheat or dairy? in my opinion, the only true test is to eliminate these foods for at least a month and then observe the results - in my experience the RAST skin tests are not helpful to determine food allergens unless these sensitivities are very, very strong (like anaphylaxis reactions) - RAST tests are better to determine sensitivities to environmental allergens such as dust, dander and pollen, whereas blood test like ELISA should be used for food sensitivities and allergens in my own personal and clinical experience i have consistently found that wheat, dairy and sugar are major triggers in childhood asthma and eczema - not the ONLY cause to be sure, but major factors nonetheless to matters more confusing, i have often found that the condition will actually WORSEN when these foods are eliminated, at least for a few weeks until the dysfunctional pattern has been eliminated - then there is a definite, sometimes sudden and permanent improvement (until that food is consumed again) if acceptable, you might try increasing the consumption of free- range, grass-fed chicken eggs into your diet, which contain appreciable amounts of omega-3 fatty acids, as well as other important nutrients that can be difficult to get in a strictly vegetarian diet, and especially one that has been restricted by eliminating dairy, the only other source of balanced proteins, B12, vit D, cholesterol etc is coconut on the list of nut allergens? if not, you can blend coconut milk, flax/hemp/perilla oil, a raw egg yolk (no raw whites) and some fruit such as a banana as a supplement to your diet, as a breast-feeding mom should keep her nutrition up with optimal nutrients and, like i recommended in the last post, infusing pungent, clearing essential oils of pine, spruce, eucalyptus etc in a humidifier at night would probably be helpful another helpful approach is to let her a suck on a bottle containing freshly made, cooled (but still warm) infusion of mullein (you can add a little spearmint leaf for flavor) - you can also drink this yourself, about 3 cups a day - mullein is an excellent herb to remove excess kapha, strengthen the lungs, and relax the airways best... todd caldecott > What amount of FLAX seed oil in my diet will help my baby and how > soon can I see if it is working?
