In previous messages author has brought out few points on diabetes.

That it is caused by affluence(#5491), and its connection to

fertility (#5493) and various mechanisms by which the disease grips

the victim and ways to treat it were discussed in (#5505). Brief

mention of PanchGaya therapy, together with ama elimination was

suggested as proper ayurvedic approach in the modern days, when

chemical toxin build up in the body mainly drives the ayurvedic

decisions.

Once, author wanted to obtain goat milk when goats were from country

side. When few farmers were contacted, everyone refused. They were

willing to give a goat for milking, but not milk itself. The reason

was every goat delivers 2-3 and exceptionally even 4 babies, and milk

is insufficient for babies themselves, how can farmers starve goat

babies for giving milk to city folks? Goats eat many bitter herbs and

graze where oxygen is in abundance; hence they have excellent

fertility! Can we see the connection between diabetes and fertility

in case of animals too?

Todays post presents some more observations regarding diabetes: is it

benign on women? Moms do not worry about their own health, as long as

the health of children and husband is not resolved first. This is the

strong belief of this author. It appears that something strange is

going on with diabetes type 2, the lifestyle disease that can end in

fatal kidney/heart problems. Researchers have dug through the past

records of 39 years of medical trials, and discovered something that

seems to have eluded every researcher before them. According to their

reanalysis, women with diabetes are 50 per cent more likely to suffer

a fatal heart condition than male sufferers. This is surprising to

this author, since women have more kind and generous heart, which

makes them less prone to heart problems. This conclusion is based on

studies carried out between 1966 and 2005, and which involved 447,000

participants.

Is there something about the difference in the sexes to cause this

unexpected risk? Diabetic women seem to have much higher blood

pressure and lipids than men with diabetes, so there could be a

genetic disposition at play. This genetic disposition may be the one

which makes them ignore their own problem in favor of their family. Some

patients hinted that it started after the childbirth. Fattening diet during

pregnancy is common in India, where every grandma wants to ensure that the

grandchild would not starve in the womb. Modern science already recognizes this

possibility as 'gestational diabetes'. The practice continues while baby is

nursing, so that rich milk is secreted. There has been apprehension that insulin

in the cow milk causes type-1 disease in west. Is it possible that similar

hyper-insulinemia can occur during natural nursing?

Another possible explanation could be that men with diabetes are more

likely to receive treatment and drug therapy, such as aspirin,

statins or antihypertensives, the researchers surmise, and this

aggressive intervention is reducing symptoms. Since women have missed

this intervention, they are less subjected to iatrogenesis, which

evens out the mortality rates between the sexes.

[Ref: British Medical Journal, 2006; 332: 73-76).

One more possible reason, according to this authors opinion, is the habit of

women to taste everything during cooking. In order to ensure that the food is up

to liking of whole family, they keep testing, (and then a little generous bite

since they have to eat after feeding everyone else) may be causing diabetes, as

expressed by some women. Add to this several festivals, ceremonies where women

meet and eat and chitchat maximum. Along with kitty-parties, festival would be

incomplete without the use of sugar, soft floor cakes, ice-creams, fats, spices

and frying![This paragraph applies only to Indian women, a majority of them are

housewives only. Author begs their pardon if their feelings are hurt.]
