Guest guest
One reason why ayurveda interests me is because of its emphasis on living with the seasons and trying to keep in sync with natural rhythms. I have noticed recently that after a semester of school, if I am going to get sick, then that is when I do it. And also, I will usually get the same types of ailments each time. For example, in late December or early January, I get strep throat or colds. Then in the summer I get heart problems. Something someone said just made me realize that. My daughter has made fun of me for years because I mostly seem to get sick when school is out. I have several chronic conditions that occasionally flare up, but the ones I get after the semester is over tend to be acute, with fever, and antibiotic resistant. Now that I am really aware of the pattern, it will be easier to prevent, I hope. I am not exactly sure what to do about it and how much of it is just deferred stress. Anyway, I am wondering if anyone else on the list has this sort of thing? Also, I have just 3 years ago moved to a slightly different climate. We have a couple of days of really cold weather each year, then temperatures run in the 70's and 80's in the winter and higher in the summer with lots of humidity. What does ayurveda say about these climates that don't really have too much seasonal change? Darla
Guest guest
Dear Darla, Climates and seasons have effects on the doshas by nature of their qualities. (i.e. in a region where it tends to be cold and dry or in the fall when it becomes dry, vata increases) So, yes, very commonly we'll see that a person's conditions worsen (when similar qualities) or improve (when opposite qualities) based on the season and climate. The climate that you are in sounds best for vata (moderate to hot, and humid), and may aggravate pitta conditions, especially in the summer.
