Guest guest
The main problems here in the US are access and affordability. Most doctors, once you get in to see them, do their best to help. Some of them do make mistakes; they are human. What is scary is the way the pharmaceutical industries and the FDA are in bed together: they are approving drugs fairly quickly, then finding out that the drugs are killers. Another thing is that they seem to insist on performing their own trials of many things that Europe or Asia have already done trials on or been using without harm for a long time. Since many of the Europeans seem to be healthier than we are, I think that may be a waste of time and money that could go elsewhere. And I don't even want to get started on prices for those drugs... We also have a 2 tiered system: the rich or those with really comprehensive insurance (nowadays synonymous) get seen and treated very quickly and can pay for the best doctors, and the rest of us may or may not get treated adequately. The only advantage to this that I can see is that a study came out saying that people with money or good insurance tend to get overtreated--unnecessary procedures, dangerous tests, etc. So sometimes, in the US, it may actually be better to be poorer.
