Guest guest
Hello, I would like to add my thoughts briefly on the problem of non-sleep in little ones. I think the herbal suggestions Dr. Bhate made are fanatastic, and I would like to propose one more which I have had success with, and is easily attainable for both Westerners and Easterners. Himalaya Drug Co. makes a syrup called "Mentat", base is Brahmi, Gotu Kola, Shankpushpi, Aswaganda... Because this is in syrup form, and actually tastes ok, the children I have prescribed it to have had good success. Infants take 1/2 teasoon twice daily.. We must remember also that herbal treatment is to been seen like a temporary "helper" in these situations. Herbs are our friends, here to help us while me make the necessary changes to our lifeslyle ie. eating, sleeping and excersice to become self-sufficient and truelly healthy. This leads me to my point of excersice. Is this baby getting the necessary stimulation and excersice that he/she needs during the daytime hours, in order for him/her to feel tired naturally at night? I know it may sound like a silly thing prescribing excersice to a 7 month year old baby, but please take the basic idea into consideration. When I work all day outside, I feel tired. When I do heavy mental work and processing, I feel tired. Isn't the same true for baby? On baby scale? You may want to consider the amount of physical movement the child is having in the daytime, and deduce for yourself if he/she is having enough movement (or excitement). If the child is staying up late because he/she is simply a "Super-energy child", as Dr. Bhate suggested, then letting the child expend the potential energy through physical and mental movement *on a regular routine* during the daytime hours will be a good therapy for inducing deep sleep at night. Warming a little lavender or rose essential oil next to the baby's crib in a diffuser can be a good remedy for calming at night. You may also want to consider if the baby is spending time looking at the TV- especially after dark.. The TV can send too much visual stimulation to the brain, especially in children, and cause an imbalance in their Prana Vayu or "thought waves".. This author personally feels that the TV/video games is to blame for the huge uprising of ADD and ADHD in children. Tv sends waves of light to the eye at 20 "blinks" a second, too fast for us to realize that it is indeed blinking on and off very very quickly. This is sending pulses of light energy directly into the brain at a very rapid rate. After the child watches these quick pulses of light (TV), they then return to reality, and their "trained" brain then thinks "why did everything slow down?", so the child then exibits behavior that is out of time- sync with reality - or hyperactive. If the child spends hours a day watching a TV, day after day, the patterns form in the neural pathways The patterns then exibit themselves through behavior and other physical and mental manifestations. In the case of infants, just being in the same room as the TV and hearing it (the audio-voices) late at night can be enough to keep them stimulated well into the night. They are so very sensitive. Lastly, I would like to suggest to you as a mom (or parent) to remember to take care of yourself during this time. It is difficult with a baby waking up all of the time, but please consider the value of this thought. If you as a parent are tired, angry, frustrated, nervous, worried, then the child will also feel this on one level or several levels.. Children are extremely sensitive to psychic energies/feelings. They also can intrepret body language, facial energy/gestures, all of these things. (and you can't fake it, I've tried!) So, as a parent, please take some time to nurture yourself today, tomorrow, next week, and then on a regular routine. The better your health, the better you can serve your family. A good place for a tired mommy to start is massage, if the means are avalable. Truelly, the more relaxed mommy is, the more relaxed baby will be too! If massage is not a choice, then simply taking time to do whatever it is that is your idea of relaxation - hot bath, read a book, listen to relaxing music, take the time and do it. Just 15 min a day of devotion to the self will reap a huge benefit for everyone. It is so important for parents to remember to nurture themselves while they have young children. And remember, it is mutually beneficial.. the healthier and happier mommy and daddy are, the healthier and happier the baby will be too. Guest guest
Tony, thank you for your reply. can you recommend a website where to purchase this "mentat"? also, I think she gets enough excercise, she never stops crawling, moving, standing, playing. she is active the whole day. although she does not go outside much at the moment as we have a lot of snow and I do not have a car. We mostly just go to the temple on the weekend. I'm sure she feels tired, her eyes look red and puffy, she yawns and rubs her eyes. but if i try to lie her down she just rolls over and crawls away. (she doesn't sleep in a crib, she sleeps on a mattress on the floor, either in her room or at night with us.) At the moment, I have put on one video per day for her (30 minutes in the morning) this is a baby video and allows me to take a shower and know she is safe. I will think about how to eliminate this, as I know that TV is not a great idea. she never watches at night though. Thank you also for your advice to take care of myself. It is very difficult with my husband working long hours and I am home alone with the baby. Family lives very far away. I am trying to cook fresh healthy food every day though and lie down while she plays. as Lately she has not been napping at all during the day. Thank you again for your help and advice about television. Tracey > one more which I have had success with, and is easily attainable for both Westerners and > Easterners.
