Guest guest
Dear ordinary_007in, A few thoughts I have for you: 1) Ama, or digestive toxins, can irritate the sex nerves and create excessive desire. Management of digestive agni and elimination with healthy eating habits and routines is important. 2) An excess of rajasic and tamasic foods and sensory input can create excessive desire. Foods include very spicy foods, fermented foods, processed foods, etc. Here is a link to a sattvic diet program: http://www.peacefullivinghhc.com/AyurvedicReferenceForms.htm Sensory input would include sex images, movies, violence, etc. 2) Sex can also be an attempt to fill a spiritual void or lack of love or satisfaction. So sometimes in can be more effective to think about creating a positive flow of energy where there is lack (through meditation, devotion, service, positive relationships, etc.), rather than focusing on eliminating the current strategy of masturbation. Hope this is helpful. In Service, Jacob Griscom, CAS Teaching Faculty: California College of Ayurveda Peaceful Living Holistic Healthcare Center 200 Providence Mine Rd. Guest guest
Hello, I don't know much about ayurveda or yoga. But I used to read writings from Gandhiji and he practised this subject of Celibacy in real life, leading the life of regular man. You may want to read this writings for motivation behind celibacy. Various suggestions given in the replies are very good, but you may want to find out some short term solution for getting back your health , given the problem/habbit you have. Eating ojas improving foods such as milk (with Ginger/cardmom + cinnamon) and/or Almonds+Dates (with fennel and cardmom) or any other Ojas improving foods (including Ghee) would start helping you to recover from the loss of Ojas. And you may want to stop things like Onion, Garlic. These directly stimulate the sexual desire. Of course, I am assuming your digestion and elimination are not affected so far. If they are affected you may have to see some ayurvedic doctor before taking up these foods. You probably want to take multi-pronged approach to improve your Ojas right now and a long term approach to get rid of the habbit. Of course, the long term goal should be to transcend the mind through the guidance of Sadguru by taking up the right spirtual discipline. I've read something about thoughts, which may be useful. Any habbit originates in the thought, which is basically fed by sensory inputs. There is this principle called "Watch the Thinker", where in a passive mode, you keep on watching the thoughts coming to you, like you watch the waves in a ocean, sitting on a beach. The moment you start watching (without thinking a thought is good or bad), you would notice that the thoughts subside. Watch like you are witness, not affected by. It takes a while for this to kick in, but this will help in getting more attentive, where the thought that arose in your mind will die before it shows up its affect on the body. You can read a book "The power of Now" by Eckhart Tolle where he explains how the mind controls people and habbits. Also, the teachings of Bhagavan Ramana Maharshi are very helpful, in the same perspective. As I said, I am not much into Yoga or anything. So read these things at your discretion. Thank you, venkat ayurveda, "Jacob Griscom, CAS" <jacob@p...> wrote: > 1) Ama, or digestive toxins, can irritate the sex nerves and create > excessive desire.
