Guest guest
Many who believe in Ayurveda do not have a local expert available nearby in foreign countries. Further, the medicines commonly used are not available locally, and online purchases cost 4-6 times price in India. The quality of medicine is another issue to be considered. Hence this author recommends carrying medicines from India, whenever situation permits. Many Indian families residing in foreign countries visit their mother land during this season. They often ask what kind of common medicine should be carried back so that they come useful when needed. A number of posts on this forum enquire whether their prescription obtained by local ayurveda expert is OK. While local expert knows your situation best, still patient is anxious to know if the medicine prescribed is indeed used for the problems that one has. To this end, this author has compiled a list of common medicines which are avaiale in Indian ayurvedic drug stores and has given their scope of usage in a file stored in folder 'Articles' under the name Medicine_chest, a MS-Word file. Mothers are urged to go through the file and see if they can buy some of the medicines while they return from India. Please note that powders have limited shelf life, while tablets can be used upto 5 years from the date of manufacture, but this too deferes from tablet to tablet. Where dosage is to be defined by expert, the medicine should be taken under the supervision of local Vaidya. And in case local vaidya is not available, start with say 1/3 dose and very gradually reach full dose, so that problems if any, will be evident well before they become serious.
