Respected Vaidyas,

The shift towards ayurvedic and chinese herbal treatment cannot be ignored any

longer. In this MSNBC (MSN+CNN) article by Reuters, a chinese herbal medicine is

given credit for treating asthma. Ayurveda also has many preparations for

treating the same. I have personally benefitted from Pankajkasthuri, a powder

form of various herbs.

I suffered from chronic cold and cough in my childhood days which subsequently

progressed to bronchitis and then asthma. Medicines only gave temporary relief.

I had once tried taking a leaf of a tree, suggested by the gardener of a forest

department nursery, which gave me some long term relief. But when it surfaced

again the gardener could not be traced. This was my first brush with herbs.

Many years later I consulted ayurveds who asked me to take Chawanaprash

regularly. Unfortunately the clarified butter content of chawanaprash irritated

my stomach. I was in search of an alternative and found Pankaj Kasthuri which is

a dry powder. I took one spoonful with a cup of milk twice a day. I felt a lot

of relief within days of use. My cough almost disappeared and the mucous became

liquid thus easing the breathing process. I took three packets of the medicine,

against the recommended six, and I got total relief. However I still keep the

medicine ready in winter months just to feel assured and comfortable.

This medicine is prepared in South India as far as I can remember right now. I

have noticed many other preparations lately from reputed manufacturers and I am

sure they too have got good medicinal value. I mentioned Pankaj Kasthuri here

because I have personally benefitted from it. Others may find relief from some

other preparation as per the body constituency.

Regards,

Jagannath.
