Sir

This is what I wrote in my original mail. I do not think I have written anything

that qualifies me to be a "loud mouth". I have never felt more insulted in my

life.

I will be very grateful if you ensure mankikar issues an unconditional apology

and takes back his statement.

Thank you

Bob.

Dear Bob,

If anybody should apologize for hurting your feelings I think it

should be me for I edited and approved the said message.

For the past 4 years inspite of all my efforts there comes a time

when I need to take some hard decisions. This time too steps should

have been taken during the Jaganath-Mankikar confrontation but

somehow the later messages indicated a reconciliation between the

two and hence any direct intervention was avoided on my behalf.

However the memories of that confrontation seem to pervade all

further postings. The post in which Dr. Mankikar made the said

remarks is a case in point. If you read the post carefully, the

remark is not made against anyone individual but against the

ayurvedic community as a whole. One of the reason the message was

posted as it is because we face much harsher criticism here in India

and hence we tend to take statements like this in our stride.

Infact even in his generalised statement about Prince Charles, Dr.

Mankikar is grossly mistaken. Prominent personalities tend to get

swayed by "emerging trends" and in fact consult people who are not

trained in their field. In case of ayurveda atleast these are people

who have thier basic training in modern medicine, have strong

prejudices and think that because they understand some ayurvedic

words they know ayurveda "better". They then talk

about "modernising", "standardising" and "what-not-ising" ayurveda.

When their bubble bursts, ayurveda is discredited even without

thinking that the said person was not meant to be consulted at all.

So Prince Charles (if he does so) may not be consulting a properly

trained ayurvedic professional at all.

Dr. Mankikars greatest grouse seems to be the medicines sometimes

suggested in the messages. Many group members who are doctors

(whether of modern medicine or ayurveda or other fields) have always

pointed out that proper prescription cannot be given without

physically examining the patients. Very right. But the suggestions

on this group are not prescriptions. But it altleast creates an

awareness that such a medicine exists. It atleast makes a person

aware that an alternative is available. All our tall talk on how

there are ayurvedic medicines for every conditions would empty if

people are not aware of them. Actually that is one of the major

factor which has held back ayurvedic medicine. The groups aim is to

basically do that. Inform people about ayurveda and related topics.

That has been the motto since the inception of the group.

The other of Dr. Mankikar's complaint is that non-licensed and non-

trained persons making comments on modern medicine. While we would

like this to be an exclusive ayurveda group, in todays world we

cannot remain totally aloof of happenings in other fields similar to

our own. Almost every post on topic not related to ayurveda has a

source somewhere on the internet (that is why the moderators have

resorted to providing only the links in such messages). It is not

possible to check the veracity of each link mentioned and the

contents within. But we have also never blocked any post which

mentions that the information provided is wrong. It is upto people

in that field to defend whatever they think is wrong. But Dr.

Mankikar is instead killing the messenger.

Well Bob, since this is a open for all group, I cannot ask anybody

to offer any kind of apology let alone an unconditional one. But I

can assure you that the comment was not meant for you alone. I offer

my apologies for the mental stress it has caused you and maybe this

will give us moderators a warning to be more stringent in moderating

messages.

Sir

I am sorry you had to take so much trouble for my sake. I now understand

Mankikar's comments were directed at Jaganath. But that does not absolve him. I

hope he mends his ways.

Bob.
