Guest guest
sorry, a "quack" originally referred to a medical doctor - it refers to therapeutic use of mercury (quick silver) during the 18-19th centuries (from the german "quecksilber"), a highly toxic remedy by an standard at the time medical physicians had completely lost touch with the cause and effect of their medicines, and had to invent parameters to determine their efficacy although it was originally put into practice to combat syphilis (as an ungent), they began to use mercury indiscriminately, in my opinion, similar to how many drugs are abused nowadays, e.g. antibioitcs, statins, antihypertensives, etc etc. its very interesting how the medical profession has taken their dirt labels and cast them at us i can't help but remember a quote attributed to the buddha by the venerable Nanavirathera: "When I lose my temper and throw angry words at other people I am like a man who picks up a lump of excrement in his hand to throw at other people. When he throws it he may hit other people or he may miss them, but in any case he makes himself stink first..." FYI, the writings of Nanavira: http://www.geocities.com/Athens/9366/index.htm best... todd Caldecott todd www.toddcaldecott.com in Vancouver: (778) 896-8894 On 6-Oct-05, at 4:48 AM, ayurveda wrote: > Definition of a Quack is , It sounds and looks like a duck !!! > No, all kidding aside, a quack, is somebody, who is not trained in > Medicine, but prescribes it. > A Pretender.
