Guest guest
Objective of this post is to bring attention to the fact that drugs, whether chemical ones or herbal ones, if taken in wrong manner(self medication), given in wrong manner (improper dose or symptomatic treatment, interaction amongst drugs etc) can become unsafe for health. For instance, please visit: Statistics prove prescription drugs are 16,400% more deadly than terrorists http://www.newstarget.com/009278.html How to know if a drug is being taken/prescribed wrongly? 1. Drug should not cause stomach acidity/burning sensation/heat/rashes to appear or rise or hunger and digestion to reduce. Though many anti-acity or pitta pacifier drugs may reduce hunger, the best ones keep hunger unaffected. 2. Drug should increase vigor, not cause sluggishness. Not increase sleep, unless drug is given for correcting sleep disorder. 3. Most sensitive indicator is bowel motions. Thier color, consistency, frequency, ease of evacuation, etc. When bowels are evacuated fully everyone feels very "fresh", happy and calm. Else anxiety, excess thoughts bring in "dis-ease" feeling. During detoxes, bowel output can change color from green to brown to black. But then discuss this with healer for appropriateness. 4. Drug should not cause darker yellow/reddish/turbid color in urine. The salty, bitter, sweet taste in urine indicates that part of the drug is thrown out by kidneys as unacceptable to the body. If we do juice fasting (eating only fruit juices) urine becomes almost like water. AND be on alert when healer asks to drink less water. Some bad drugs slow down kidneys. Slow down liver. Result is stomach bloating, swellings to appear on feet, stomach etc. If there is a swelling under the eys or on feet, discuss the drugs with healer, especially if they are given to heal diabetes, hypertension. Drug should not make skin darker/yellowish/purple, itchy, scaly, dry. Ayurvedic drugs given as blood purifiers or pitta pacifiers will cause skin to become light colored. Most sensitive skin is located on feet and face. Obsever the area around eye circles. Darkness seen or increasing is a sure sign that pitta is increasing or dhatus depleting. 5. Reactions such as flatulence, heaviness in stomach, migraine, itching, indicate that drug causes some toxins release in blood or make toxins leave body through skin, respectively. 6. Lastly, most important test is "pulse count" test posted in earlier posts. All intoxicants cause pulse count to increase a little. Exceptions can be drugs which are given by Vaidya to improve the slow heart beats (bradycardia in modern medicine). ONe should also conduct the "addiction test", in consultation with Vadiya. IF a drug is stopped for few days, it should not cause body pains, insomnia, irritability, etc. 7. Most important rule: contrary to all guidelines given above, do not stop the medicine, but discuss the observation with healer. Above are not rigid rules. There can be exceptions, but exceptions should be discussed by patient with healer, to rule out iatrogenic disease. It is always advantageous to note on a paper any departure from normality and put paper before healer, to save his time too. While discussing the departures, sometimes patient become so verbose and it puts pressure on Vaidya's time. It is preferable to note the timings of abnormal reactions, along with abnormality in foods consumed, if any. Remember, many of the reactions are attributable to patients wrong diet even for a day, lack of sleep, emotional shock, mental stress etc. Expert vaidyas know nadi points denoting stress too and they can connect the complaints with patients life style.
