Guest guest
The idea of transferring the list into another format is very good. I have been thinking about transferring the list into forum-format. I had an idea to propose merging Ayurvedaonline with ayurvedaforums.com. Ayurvedaforums was very nicely made forum, but unfortunately it never became subbesful and now seems to be closed down. How about booking ayurveda.org or ayurveda.net for this purpose, installing a discussion forum software like phpBB (see http://yogaforums.com/yogaBB/), fetching the whole forum archive from and saving it into the new forum. There is nice tool called mail-to-forum (m2f) that can be used for the work so that all the past messages will be saved and used. Benefits of the forum-format: -Various categories for different discussions -Good and flexible search function - searches the whole archive at once -Can be used easily with web browser -Can also be used as mailing list, like at present -Once the archive is transferred, it is much easier to refer to past articles by providing direct link -Modern look and feel -Moderator rights can be granted for several users -Vaidyas and other experts can have expert status -"Ask about Ayurveda" -forum can be opened for questions and answers. Answering rights can be granted only for experts. -Many other modifications can be done. I would like to give this idea for discussion. The project would need volunteers: technical people, moderators, web designers. Cybervaidya, you can contact me privately. -- Ossi Viljakainen <ossi.viljakainen .................................................................... Guest guest
I'm on similiar forums. This is a very good idea but for the forum format to be successful there should be more participation from members. Holding discussions on 10 or 12 threads simultaneously would also require the support of many practising vaidyas. It would also require more concentrated moderation. The lay user should also be ready to give more time for browsing. However if all members are willing to give more time and expertise to this group then there would be nothing better than that. It would make the group much more professional and help in disseminating more information. That format also gives more scope for sister groups to be formed on more specialised topics. The forum I regularly browse through has around a hundred qualified physicians writing round the clock. They discuss topics ranging from current topics to advanced concepts in their fields. They not only give advice to patients but also to other physicians on how to tackle their difficult cases. It is the latter facility that has interested such a large number of practitioners. Even the lurkers learn tremendously. There are also a huge number of students who ask for clarifications. Many practitioners now work online raising the demand for such forums. But, as I said, it takes much of my time. Regards, Jagannath. ayurveda, Ossi Viljakainen <ossi.viljakainen@i...> wrote: > The idea of transferring the list into another format is very good.
