Guest guest
Dear Friends, Knowing something to be not entirely true and not expressing it to others, trying to hide it, is also a form of lying. The ayurvedic understanding of disease and it's cure is vastly different from that of an allopath. Many ayurveds were thought to be stubborn and clinging when they stuck to their guns and practised what they thought was right. This was not any shortsightedness on their part but through keen observation they had found the ayurvedic principles to be true, so also for the homeopaths and others who deal with the energy principle inherent in the body. They therefore resisted the onslaught of modern medicine. I think Dr. Venugopal has very effectively separated the two schools when he requested this list to discuss the concept of cardiovascular disease based upon ayurvedic terminology alone. Nobody took up the challenge thus proving how little most of us know about ayurveda. This state of affairs is directly because of the effort to "modernise" ayurveda by those who understand very little of its principles let alone practice them. I don't think we need such allo-ayurvedic doctors anymore now that the damaging effects of chemical drugs and unnecessary invasive procedures is plainly evident. Ayurveda cannot be practised piece meal with other procedures which are not holistic in approach. To practice ayurveda you have to be not only strong in the basics but also have firm faith in the observations of the early ayurveds. They were directly in touch with nature and were in harmony with it. I'm not castigating modern science. It has done a tremendous job in following the reverse non-holistic procedure and proving it to be false. But for the advances of science most of us would have turned sceptics, doubting the words of our ancestors. This Monday, the newspaper I write to frequently will be discussing the string theory of physics and why it has not percolated down to the mainstream. This string theory is a perfect measure of the harmony of man and nature and proves the oneness behind the diversity that appears as the world. The personal ego has no place there, nor does profits and competition. The new theory is already in place but finds resistance by the scientists at the lower rung as it threatens to upset their pet theories and destroy most of the structures they have built. The astrologers amongst us know that the world is going through the Saturn phase. Saturn is a great task master and takes great pleasure in throwing out false premises. We will see during this period, ending in December 2012, many changes not many of which will be to our liking. But the truth does not depend on our personal tastes. Nor does it care for our own personal comfort zones. It is very uncompromising and brutally frank. It does not depend on any scientist to help it come to the fore. It is its own master. As Swami Vivekanda so beautifully framed it, "The truth does not pay homage to society, it is the society that must pay homage to the truth or die." If that is the case, then we should all seek medical help from only the paramedical staff, and forget about the Doctor.
