Guest guest
I have just finished reading Dr. Robert E. Svoboda's really wonderful book, Prakriti: Your Ayurvedic Constitution, and loved it for its clarity and detailed explanations. He mentions a concept, ahamkara, that I have never read of before, but find fascinating. Can anyone recommend any more books of this quality for me to continue my education? I cannot read Hindi yet, only English translations. The alphabet is very hard, but I am making an effort to learn, so I can read works without translations. If anyone can recommend good language books for learning Hindi from English or Hindi from Spanish, I would be most grateful. Right now, I have Mohini Rao's book and have ordered a couple of tapes so I can put sounds with letters. I like learning languages, so it may take some time, but I will learn eventually. Thank you, Darla
Guest guest
Dear Darla, Greetings. I'm so happy you went through that book. Really fascinating isn't it? I hope you have gone through the latest edition which is revised and much enlarged. Only yesterday I picked it up for a second read. It merits reading again and again. There is another wonderful book, "Ayurveda and the mind" by David Frawley. You can start reading that. You need to understand all concepts very thoroughly before you start on the herbs and the treatments chapters. Ahamkara is hindi for "ego" though it has a much broader connotation. I'm sure someone on this list will explain the concept in full for you.
