the Church of Scientology has long had an anti-psychiatric bias - its

one of the fundamental tenants of their religion

in Clearwater Florida, their spiritual headquarters, they have a

scientology front called the "Citizens Commission of Human Rights" near

downtown with a sign in an otherwise curtained window, "Have you been

abused by a PSYCHIATRIST?"

apparently their founder Mr. RL Hubbard, being by most accounts an

unstable 3rd rate science fiction writer, had some bad experiences with

psychiatry, which inspired him to create his own version of

psycho-babble called "auditing" using two tin cans hooked up to an

electrical volt meter that supposedly aims to get someone "clear," but

only after the poor suckers (or "wogs" as they call them) have invested

their life savings and have more or less become indentured servants to

the Cof$, and then if they are lucky enough to pass through all the

"OT" levels finally discover than in fact their religion is a

fantastical extra-terrestrial cult

please, lets not use Tom Cruise as a spokesman, or align the honor of

ayurveda and alternative medicine with this spiritual "movement"
