It appears that my 13 YO son will be going to school

in India this coming fall. My wife and I have

different views on vaccines. So far he has just had

tetanus in his whole life. I think one has to weigh

the risks and make a good choice. I realize some

vaccines have more inate problems than others. Does

anyone have views on which ones would be needed and

which ones would not? My wife is against all of them.

Dear Khalsa ji,

Namaste. I believe he is past the vaccination age if he has not

received the "mandatory" vaccines already ? He may face problems with

mainstream doctors if they find out he has not been vaccinated. That's

about all I think.

Jagannath.

hi GB

besides tetanus, and maybe typhoid, i wouldn't vaccinate

with proper health measures, good food and clean water he will be fine

some suggest vaccinating against polio, but most forms of polio are a

self-limiting benign illness

same for rubeola, hep B etc.

if the area is malaria endemic then try taking Artemisia annua (sweet

annie), 2 caps daily

also neem oil in coconut oil, 10%, has been found to protect against

mosquitos for up to 10 hours or more

and don't forget mosquito nets, which are easily available in india

the real concern are the gastropathies like giardia, amoebiasis,

bacillary dysentery

but once again, only fresh-hot cooked food, peeled fruit and bottled

water

clean, dry plates, cups and utensils are important - he might want to

bring his own

tell him to use kutaja arishtam, 10-20 mL up to 3x daily if he runs

into trouble

also, the chinese remedy Huang Lian Su Wan, 3 pills 3-4x day

sometimes people will take digestive enzymes with bentaine HCl to boost

HCl levels and prevent infection that way

Thanks Todd and Jagannath,

Your input helped somewhat although I am still in a bit of a quandry. I am

concerned mostly about hepatitis. I have known over 10 people (probably many

more who I did not know had it) who acquired hepatitis in India. They were

pretty much incapacitated for a few months. One person said he could not eat

any ice cream ( I know it's bad ) for 4-5 years because of the fat content. I

realize that one of the vaccines that is a 3 in 1 vaccine is especially bad. I

know one American vaidya told me he had a vaccine when he was in college and had

bad reaction. The doctors basically told him he was going to die. His aunt

heard about it and gave him an enema and in 20 min. he was okay. A woman friend

of mine said she had typhoid (oral ) when she went to India. She said every

time she took it she would basically come down with typhoid. I think she said

she took it monthly. Her husband had no reaction but he did have hepatitis a

few years earlier. Is there another way to take typhoid

besides orally?

Thanks

GB Khalsa
