Guest guest
How we revert to our reflexes, and biases inspite of education !! Although Todd explained the origin of the word "Allopathy", which includes both Ayurveda and Modern meds, some people still keep bashing "Allopathy". Our instinctual referral back to Ayurveda is good, but knowledge of both systems is necessary for an unbiased treatment. Also, the 5 Koshas are Annamaya---( literally Food based, one may call it physical), Pranamaya ( based on Air / breathing and circulation), Manomaya ( based on the mind and nervous system), Dnyanamaya ( based on basic knowledge and higher knowledge) and Anandamaya ( the state of Eternal Happiness ). Beyond all these is the Self, the Atma. Durgesh Mankikar,MD

Beyond all these is the Self, the Atma. Dear Dr. Durgesh, Namaskar. Yes, I am aware of that. I am trying to reduce the dependancy on sanskrit/Indian terms here as many valued members of the list have asked me to write in such a manner that it is understood by people from all sections of the society. With reverence to their wishes I will try to speak entirely in English, though it is very difficult to exactly translate the sanskrit words, as you have so kindly pointed out. I would also like to point out that there are two kinds of knowledge, the higher science or the spiritual science and the lower science or the science of day to day living (Para Vidya, Apara Vidya). While the higher science points out the goal of life, the lower science guides us on secular matters. The materialists embrace the lower science in its entirety while the spiritual giants shun it. As Sri Ramakrishna retorted to his elder brother, "I do not care for bread and butter education. I am here to gain the ultimate knowledge". The choice is ours as to how much we allow the two forms of education to shape our lives and personalities. We can choose to either cater to our own selves or take up higher causes and be a blessing to our parents, teachers and society. Regards, Jagannath.
