Guest guest
Jagannath, You seem to make a few errors in your presumptions. # 1) Incresed blood flow is not necessarily linked to teratogenecity only, as in the increase in your blood flow to organs after exercise, or its effect on the heart. There is no teratogenecity in those who chronically exercise. exercise even makes your thinking "clear" with the increase in oxygenation, and of blood flow. # 2) You have mentioned parental and hereditary factors. But even as big a role as these is from Societal / Social / and Environmental Factors. Children born in the same family may grow up differently due to differences in exposure to these factors. # 3) We definitely need to teach Anger management. and Disappointment management. # 4) These problems are not just in the West. There are several mentally handicapped affluent families in India, from not being able to co-mingle with the opposite sex, and the arranged marriage situation. Also, there are many social derelicts and abusers of children and spouses. This problem is not unique to the West. It is just different. # 5) In India, especially, the philosophy of Karma perhaps helps us, in the sense, if you are or are not doing well, is taken as dependent on your karma and in order to not repeat it in the next life, one is dissuaded from committing such crimes. # 6) I am not sure if the children "think" that differently in India, but guns are not available, however drugs definitely are available. The children of poverty either are thankful for whatever they get or just do not care for anything else., because they are not exposed to it. With the advent of TV and with Children's Computer games ( mostly destructive ), that too will change. # 7) As much as you blame FDA, it is the Thalidomide tragedy that brought it into being. Thalidomid was being given as an anti-emetic to pregnant patients. # 8) Eros means Desire in Greek, and is the same as Cupid in latin. Erotes is the pleural of Eros. But it does not automatically imply Love, one hopes the two are tied in together. Finally, can you keep your exciting mailings brief ? You make your points in the first few paragraphs, and there is no need to repeat them over and over again. Durgesh Mankikar,MD
