Guest guest
Hello Doctors, My second son is suffering from suspected lactose intolerance. The symptoms are - he becomes very cranky in the night, becomes very restless, does not sleep - sleeps between 3 AM - 5 AM. He is still being breast fed and he is 9 weeks old. When ever Phenargan syrup has been given as per the pediatrician's advice, he sleeps well that and also the next day, but later the same old symptoms return. His stool are very frequent, watery to sticky in consistency, color is normal. We got his urine tested as per the advice of the pediatrician and it mentioned there stool to be slightly acidic, was positive for stool reducing substances reading about 0.5%. This was the indication for lactose intolerance as per the pediatrician. I am in a dilemma what to do next? His symptoms does not seem to come down. Presently he is on homeopathic medications as per a homeopathic qualified doctor. Can some of the doctors on this panel help me out with some suggestions and tips. His symptoms does not seem to come down avoid lactose! - btw, homeopathic tablets are often prepared with lactose you don't say how old he is but avoid giving him any dairy at all and since u are breast-feeding him, you need to avoid common problem foods such as dairy, flour, sugar, chocolate, coffee, cruciferous vegies, garlic and chili peppers > - he becomes very cranky in the night, becomes very > restless, does not sleep - sleeps between 3 AM - 5 AM. He is still this the vata time of day, and thus vata-reducing herbs and therapies are best used, but there is also a paittika component, inferred from the loose motions and, since he is breast fed you can also drink carminative herbal teas that reduce vata and pitta, such coriander, fennel, dill and licorice, 2-3 cups a day, and even give him a little to suck on (either in a bottle or by soaking a clean cloth in the tea); other helpful herbs might include chamomile or catnip; for added benefit, you can give him a little slippery elm gruel to settle his stomach topically, i would recommend a medicated oil to rub into his belly, before bedtime and even during the early morning hours, such as almond oil infused with chamomile essential oil regular full body massage with plain oil (e.g. sesame, almond etc.) is also recommended encourage lots of skin on skin contact play soothing music, e.g. indian classical, baroque music (e.g. JS Bach) aromatherapy at night could include lavender and lemon balm Caldecott todd www.toddcaldecott.com
