Guest guest
Please, how can I became from eating compulsion? This compulsion has been making a big mess in my love, I talk like this because it's out of control... Thanks a lot, Leandro Fossá PS: I've tried once Valerian and Kava Kava, because I thought it was because of my anxiety, but it didn't work.... Guest guest
beyond its reputed benefits i am concerned about the sustainability of harvesting Hoodia, which is listed in the appendix 2 of the CITES database - according to CITES any product that contains Hoodia must say: "Produced from _Hoodia_ spp. material obtained through controlled harvesting and production in collaboration with the CITES Management Authoritiesof Botswana/Namibia/South Africa under agreement no. BW/NA/ZA xxxxxxx" its traditional use was to prevent hunger on long trips, but wasn't used on a daily basis like how its being marketed - the idea that it is Hoodia that makes the Kalahari bushmen thin is ridiculous and totally out of context with the reality - spend an entire day tracking animals, digging up roots, etc, and i'm sure we'll all be thin and healthier for it rather than taking Hoodia i think making the necessary dietary and lifestyle changes is the best option if needed herbs such as malabar tamarind can be taken, which is commonly found as the extract 'citramax,' and can be obtained from sustainable sources malabar tamarind is an effective appetite suppressant by stimulating lipolysis (i.e. the breakdown of fat), which provides energy and thus naturally reduces appetite - kaphahara herbs like trikatu can also be helpful however the appetite is also regulated by psycho-social behaviours, for which there is no cure except self-discipline - "he who controls his tongue controls his life" it is important to look at why we over-eat, what we are doing to satisfy a deeper hungering or yearning compulsive eating can be a way to simply stuff these feelings down, to avoid confronting these deeper issues... todd caldecott On Apr 5, 2005, at 8:19 AM, ayurveda wrote: > Leandro, > > I saw a program on TV about an herb from Africa called > Hoodia. Guest guest
Dear Leandro, I am not sure whether you have tried some psychotherapy for the purpose. Before going for herbs or any kind of medicine, I would suggest you go for such measures. In the meantime you can take following few steps: 1. Find out an activity of interest, something creative, and try to keep yourself busy. 2. Substitute maximum part of your diet with fruits and vegetables. 3. Analyse yourself and see if you have anxiety problems. Try to remain calm and relaxed. You can go for breathing exercises esp Pranayam. 4. Try to ignore the problem. The more you think, the more it would get reinforced. Vineet Bhatia
