Guest guest
Nadi vigyan procedure for Cervical spondylitis, sciatica, severe backpain: The control of our whole body is through communication nervous system. The system consists of brain stem, sciatica nerve and its several branches reaching all organs. This nerve, about a quarter inch thick, starts at brain stem and passes through spinal vertebrae. Divides in two parts near coccyx (Kokilasthi in ayurveda) and reaches upto toes of both feet. When this nerve receives receives pressure from vertebrae (as a result of mis-alignment, local swelling, inadequate shleshak Kapha etc) the electrical signals face resistance, causing malfunction in the organs controlled by branches radiating from that vertebra. Thus a pressure between C2, C3 vertebra can cause speech defect such as stammer. If Kapha accumulation in region between T6 to T9, it causes pain which affects cardiac muscle, often misunderstood as angina pectoris. IN order that all organs of body perform well, spinal chord should not have any mislignment/pressure on sciatica nerve. The chord compresses due to our sitting posture and this can be relieved by a simple yogasana, termed paschimottanasana. The action of this nerves gets hampered due to falls, shocks to spine, heavy object lifting and high heel shoes. This causes pain from lumber region right up to toe. Unless there is permanent discernible mislignment X-rays do not reveal anything, but nadi vigyan can help in such circumstances. Nadi vigyan can be used even when misalignment exists. Support belt for neck, waist is often recommended by modern science. Traction is also suggested many a time, especially if knee pain also exists. A local swelling is sometimes misunderstood as slip-disc and surgery is suggested. The pain due to local problem in spine radiates to whole leg. Swelling of nerve creates immobility for the patient. Before accepting surgery recommendation, author suggests a simple home treatment based on several nadi-vigyan pressure points located in the back side of thighs, calf muscle and hips. These points get pressed during Vajrasana also. For spondilytis, some points in neck region often get pressure when Indian barbers twist customers neck at the end of hair cut or shave. This requires considerable skill and experience. Nadi vigyan, though not documented well in ancient texts, it has traveled through generations. Let patient sleep on a setee (diwan) six by two feet size, facing downwards, with back upside (prone position). A soft 14 x 12 inches pillow under the chest and hands folded under the chin makes comfort for patient. Take three inches wide cloth straps (you can use old sari, dupatta, dhoti or towel also). Tie them at 1. Between T5-T9 region (just where end of bra or blouse is located) 2. Centre of spine, where waist measurement is taken (least measurement of waist) 3. Lower lumber region So that patient can not move much. Pressure should not be so high to cause breathing difficulty. (A) (For spondilytis mainly). Hold the patients head in both hands and rotate up -down and left-right directions in circular arc, without jerks and without pain to patient. Five rotation up - down and five left-right. This twisting motion relieves nerve pressure in cervical area. Patient can hear some sounds, as if sand or salt is crushed between rollers. The toxin crystals get broken and removed by appropriate elimination system (Lymph, kidney) (B) Let patient rest his chin on folded hands. Lift his right leg and slowly fold it so that heel touches right hip. Let heel press into hip a little.. Repeat three times. Straighten right leg and repeat with left leg pressing into left hip three times. Take now both legs in two hands, together fold them so that heels touch respective hip. Application of slow but heavy pressure for thirty seconds may cause patient to cry out with pain. The pressure and time needs to be adjusted here according to pain bearing capacity of the patient. Release the straps and let patient get up slowly. The release of sciatica nerve through misligned vertebrae gives significant relief. Repeat procedure A and B after 3-4 days if needed. The procedure is needed at most four to five times at an interrval of 4 days each. In case no relief, approach surgeon. Problem is more serious. If there is a previous surgery of vertebrae or knee cap, or cardiac problem, procedure is not to be undertaken. One point to be noted that often, hypertension is the by-product of the misalignment, caused by constricted flow of Cerebro-spinal fluid (Merujala) and pressure on pituitary gland. If above procedure helps in reducing misalignment, hypertension will also get corrected.
