Guest guest
Dear I have gone through your article on triphala. It's a great compilation, I appreciate you.I would like to suggest you a few things to your article. 1)You have directly referred prameha as diabetes in this article,Do you think it's right? 2) Madhuka is Yastimadhu, but Madhooka is Maduka indica. (This clearly indicates the importance of sanskrit to be well known to an ayurvedic physician.)
Guest guest
> 1)You have directly referred prameha as diabetes in > this article,Do you think it's right? first off, i need to state that this article was cowritten and published a few years ago - i wrote my sections and edited it the best i could in the time we had before publication 1) i do not think one can equate all subtypes of prameha with diabetes mellitus - madhumeha however seems similar, but the rationales and treatments are different - any diagnosis is a theory - the test of that theory is the response to treatment - if a pt with diabetes mellitus is treated on the basis of madhu meha and becomes better, we can suggest that in this case they are one and the same or at least congruent diagnoses however, b/c each system uses different criteria and rationales i think that they cannot be held to be identical > 2) Madhuka is Yastimadhu, but Madhooka is Maduka indica. absolutely - i am well aware of this difference a knowledge of Sanskrit is key in correctly understanding Ayurvedic terms this is why all Sanskrit terms in my upcoming text are written in a diacritical format, i.e. Mesua ferrea is madhuka with a macron over the "u" to indicate a long vowel sound, i.e. "oo" (incidentally, i don't use Madhuka for licorice in my text because its too similar and will confuse readers - instead i use yashti or yashtimadhu) i have spent many hours ensuring that all Sanskrit terms in my text are correct and accurate as you pointed out this reference to madhuka in the triphala article is incorrect (it also does not use the correct binomial)- thanks for bringing it to my attention - when i have a chance i will send the revisions to Michael Tierra best... todd caldecott
