Guest guest
Hi- I recently joined this group and am seeking advice. I have had consultations with an Ayurvedic practitioner and I am a vata-kapha type. For the most part I am juggling these doshas pretty well but I have a problem with recurring canker sores. I thought canker sores were primarily a pitta type disease. Any info you can share is greatly appreciated! Lisa
Guest guest
I would have to presume that your practitioner is referring to you Prakruti {primordial constitution} and not your Vikruti {any possible imbalance you might be experiencing}. Cold Sores are a side effect of the herpes virus, which become active when the balance of L- L-Arginine and L-lysine get off. The best product I have seen for this is Super Lysine by Quantum. You can find it at http://www.quantumhealth.com/productgroups/coldsore.html Good luck with this.. Noel Gilbert
Guest guest
Hi LIsa and Noel; Good point on the prakruti/vikruti issue, of course. I find sometimes my vata may be very high and pushing pitta into narrower channels, I bleive is what happens in part, the stress level say from travel really brings it out for me. Topical use of this lysine plus beautiful formula has been very helpful for me. But if I take lysene internally for more than a couple days, I feel my immune system weakened in other ways and prone to congestion in throat and colds. I have read llysine in high doses can do this. But if I catch it within the first couple hours of initial symptoms, I have found that very high doses along with high doses of garlic capsules can turn it around. So can sleep and other good nutritional factors often! Most find it important to avoid nuts, any alchohol, chocolate, excess sun and fatigue, and caffienne. I favor coconut oil/coconut and the high arginine foods including fresh corn, amaranth and quinoa. The coconut oil had been extract formulated with a key ingredient people are finding very helpful - I just take 2 - 3 tablespoons a day in my food, much cheaper and more enjoyable. I also have found chapparal with vitamin C to be helpful, but it is a strong bitter to reckon with. I'm most interested in eliminating the virus from my system, which I bleive to be possible.
