Dear Anita

After reading your problem I think that you should know the root cause. Why only

you get this complaints if you are eating normal food? For that you should know

some basic principles of Ayurveda. Anything you eat, if digests properly and

good quality rakta dhatu (blood)is formed and unwanted material is excreted in

the form of stool, urine & sweat. If this process hampers, we get digestive

disorders & symptomps like foul smell as in your case. if early in the morning

daily evacuation is not proper, any constipation or diaria tendancy you can get

foul smell. according to ayurveda, foul smell is vataj disorder of digestion.

the routine work of apan vayu not happening properly so it is very important to

know which type of bowels you have. any burning sensation to urine, foul smell

to sweat occurs. In such cases, internal body purification is very necessary.

for healthy perople also it is suggestable on prevention basis & people

suffering from digestive disorders do it compulsory.

Following medicines are suggested to start with:

1) phaltrikadi guggul at morning 2 tabs

2) shwadanstradi guggul at 8 in morning, 2 tabs

3) prawal pishti aftern lunch 2 tabs

4) jatamansi at bedtime 2 tabs

all these are for improving your digestion & for training intestine to digest

the food you eat. with above things you should apply ayurvedic dantamanjana

which is formed for oral hygine. sweet tooth paste should be avoided.

feel free to contact me any time

I am not sure if this was already suggested, but have you tried a tongue

scraper?

Yes, I use a tongue scraper every day, but within one hour of brushing my

teeth and cleaning my tongue the smell is there again. Any cure for hallitosis?

Is that what it's called?

Thanks

The question first of all, is how was the foul breath discovered ? By oneself,

or by some one else standing close ? Its not a facetious question, because

usually one is not able to smell one's own breath, until it is really bad.

The word in Western Medicine is Halitosis, and was coined by a tooth paste

company, and not by doctors or dentists. It definitely sold a lot of tooth

pastes, I am sure.

Halitosis may be from poor dental hygiene, diseases of the oral mucosa ( of the

mouth ), or from diseases of the lungs or the airway from nose to lungs. One

should have a proper medical examination to rule out any ulers in the mouth,

dental abscesses, disease of the gums, pneumonia, cavitary disease of the lungs,

or from ingestion of foods that give out such breath.

The simplest solution is the use of " mukhwaas" or stuff that gives out good

smell after each dinner---the chronic use of a" supari with lavang, elaichi,

jeshthimadhu, "etc--the routine post prandial Indian custom.

For more serious disorders, one should consult a proper physician, not just take

something prescribed from an e-mail such as ours. Without knowing your entire

history and unless you are examined, no practitioner, Ayurvrdic or of Western

Medicine, would venture to treat you.

Hi Durgesh. I first learned of my breath issue when I was 18 years old and a

girlfriend mentioned it to me. Also my husband talked of it when we were

first married. I am terrified of going close to anyone (and I give

massage!).....

am very paranoid about it. I can taste it on my breath also so I know it's

there. It feels like it's at the back of my tongue coming from my gut. I eat

healthy vegetarian organic food so I'm baffled about it. Though I took

antibiotics for 10 years while I was a teenager (for acne) which of course would

offset constipation and colon problems. It is a constant problem, it doesn't go

away. Please help.

Thanks

BINGO!

if not caused by metabolic factors (e.g. ketosis, uremia. liver

failure, lung infection), foul breath will often come from decaying

tissue and/or bacterial putrefaction/fermentation

if you can rule out a dental abscess (likely in your case), then the

issue probably relates to an overgrowth of the wrong bacteria, caused

by prolonged antibiotic use

by taking antibiotics you have destroyed the normal healthy flora of

microorganisms that you were born with and inherited from your mother,

and now you have an "evil" assortment of microbial bad guys that are

causing your constipation and bad breath, and probably doing much more

besides

the solution:

1. if you are constipated, take something like triphala with trvrit to

move the bowels, and each more fiber-rich foods (leafy greens) and and

drink more water between meals; take other herbal supplements to

improve digestion, such as hingvastak, and/or aromatic herbs such as

basil, coriander, peppermint and cardamom

2. start taking a probiotic supplement: if none are available start

eating the whey (liquid portion) from yoghurt (but not the yoghurt

itself); these bacteria are helpful to limit the growth of the "bad"

bacteria, but in yoghurt they are what are called "transient"

organisms, meaning that they exert their beneficial properties only as

long as you keep taking them supplement; the best long term solution is

to take a broad spectrum probiotic supplement with species including L.

acidophilus and B. bifididus - these are found refrigerated in health

food stores, and for best effect should be the human variant forms
