Guest guest
I have one child who is now 19, born in 1985. I am a small person (five foot three inches) with small bones. I was extremely tired at about five months gestation. It was extremely painful to sit up, as the pressure on my ribs from the baby was painful. I had to stop working in May because of the pain. I delivered near the end of October. Also I had trouble walking and breathing. I spent most of my time after that in bed, trying to breathe. My child was jammed into my pelvis diagonally. Her head was below the left iliac crest and her legs were folded up under my right ribcage. I am short waisted and narrow hipped. She never kicked me very hard because there was not enough room. At term I weighed 187 pounds. I had a planned c-section as the doctor knew I would have died had I attempted to deliver vaginally. I am extremely thankful (to put it mildly) for modern surgery!! I had absolutely NO dilation and NO dropping. Baby Girl was a beautiful healthy eight pounds and 20 inches long!! Huge!! I understand why Todd used the word "parasite". I did not take it as a negative. Yes, children are wonderful. It was a huge stress on my body. I think small women go through a lot more strain than large women during pregnancy. Unfortunately I had an unsympathetic spouse. That did not help any. He thought I was being lazy, when I was too large to work. He just didn't know anything about females. My daughter is a college student now and the light of my life. It was a lot of pain and discomfort but it was well worth it. Even though I'm not made for having babies easily, I LOVE being a mom!!
