Dear Sirs,

Can anyone suggest me the best remedies for Eczema. My 11 month old

child is suffering from this from month 1. We have now opted for

Homeopathy but there is no remarkable cure/result we get. Earlier we

tried Ayurveda in the initial months and it was cleared but come back

soon. Due to the inconveniences in giving the ayurvedic medicines to

the child in the infancy, we changed to Homeo.

Still I believe Ayurveda can completely cure this disease.

Our main problem is itching and sleeplessness (only few hours sleep)

of the child. He also suffer from fever/cold every month. Before

changing to Ayurved, I need an advise/help of any of the learned member.

Even if it is not cured in 1-2 years, we just want to get rid of itching and

provide sound sleep to him.

Please help.

Dear Kannan;

We would need to know some things about your diet, if baby is

nursing, and baby's diet, as well as bowel habits and other history.

In particular, a good place to start is avoiding sour things like

yoghurt, spiciness like chiles and onion, any forms of tomatoes and

often other nightshade family foods, fried foods and other highly

acidic or acid forming foods including eggs and citrus. Some say

avoid all dairy, I beleive it is key what form and quality ie, no

sour cheeses, only highest quality organic and unhomoginized milk

boiled first with a little fennel seed, fresh ginger and diluted

almost half. A little stevia or succanat is fine in it.

As I understand it, small intestinal conditions and liver/blood high

pitta impurities and aggravators are involved over a long time from

pre-pregnancy. Long term irritations such as your baby's symptoms

will in turn increase vata, so both doshas need attention. Chronic

conditoins do take more time to turn around, although my guess is the

vaidyas will have some very targetted advice. I have worked with some

excellent success with adults for psoriasis and eczema, and as a

mother of three grown children and a postpartum Ayurvedic doula of 13

years, my attentions and skills have grown for the little ones too.

If it were my baby I would include slippery elm tea daily at bedtime

or evening, also some american saffron (safflower) tea with stevia

for sweetener in the am (perhaps added other herbs, or put them in

another anupana/carrier, such as natural sweet with ghee or possibly

better anupan would be cold butter). (1 tspherbs/cup, steep 5 min and

make fresh daily - you may take the rest) For this concern, never

take the safflower and slippery elm together per Dr. Edgar Cayce. I

would encourage you to drink several cups of CCF (equal parts cumin,

coriander and fennel) tea daily warm; baby can have too; these are

alkalyzing and gentle digestive integrity support.

I ask the vaidyas if properly prepared cow or goat milk would be good

with the manjista in this situation. I would be inclined to adding

some guduchi also, gentler but ojas promoting, some bala and pinch of

tagara for a while, also pinch pippali and possibly some burdock,

which along witht he manjista is wonderful for the lymph work. I do

not understand yet the dhatu factors per se, and would appreciate

hearing vaidya feedback in these terms. I realize skin specific

herbs will be wise too.

If nursing it can be easier, by treating you too. I'd surely include

other blood/liver cleansing bitter herbs (best is probably manjista)

in some combo with others per a full assessment. This is because 1)

these herbs are very vata increasing and sleeplessness is already

very vata aggravating as well as vata caused (if the hours of 2 - 6

am are particularly wakeful especially)then we need to combine these

herbs with something sweet and unctuous. Depends on what Baby is

eating, food combinations also.

Undoubtably if you can access the young coconuts and feed baby both

the liquid and the tender meat, applying some of the juice on the

skin you will find relief and good nourishment. Cilantro juice tho

messy is also topically as well as internally valuable (cook gently

and season a soup with it). Ylang Ylang oil (organic only please,

see access option below if you wish at youngliving) topically gives

safe topical relief and gently supports skin healing along with

lavender and roman chamomile, but these do not get at the cause.

Where do you live, Kannan? I am in SE US if you care to call. Guess

I had a few things to share afterall here. This suffering has to be

heartwrenching for you! I hope your little one soon has the comfort

to experience gratitude for the gift of a human body as well as he

must already for your loving care.

Blessings;
