coffee in Ayurveda

hi jai

here is my tentative analysis of the dravyguna of roasted coffee (like

espresso or drip coffee, not with sugar/milk/cream)

the caveat of course is that coffee has no traditional use in India, so

these are only my impressions...

rasa: tikta

vipaka: katu

virya: ushna, tikshna, laghu

karma: bhedana, svasahara, mutravirechana, vyavayi, svedana, medohara,

kaphahara, vatapittakopa

or in other words, coffee is bitter in taste, with a pungent

post-digestive effect, hot/sharp/light in energy

action-wise it is laxative, bronchodilatory, diuretic, spreads quickly

through the body, promotes sweating, reduces fat and kapha, increases

vata and pitta

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

I was trying to figure out the root cause of my disturbing digestive

system. I thought it might be because of my excessive coffee drinking

(5-6 cups a day).

Coffee helps in fat loss.. thats a great news.. probably, I will try

cutting down to max 2 cups as per the advice of some members...

With regards,

Jai.

you can also find alternative to coffee such as non cafeine coffee, and the Yogi

tea brand Jamaica.
