Guest guest
In a message No. 2603 "yogaman" has covered the food recommendations and life style changes needed in case of Vatic vertigo. In the message no. 2474, the author had covered Pitta vertigo. In the continuation, author includes here the medicine approach for Vatic vertigo. In ayurveda, Vatic vertigo is assumed to be due to temporarily reduced blood flow to areas of brain responsible for balancing function. Sensation of irregular or whirling motion, either of oneself or of external objects is the characteristic. The most common form of vertigo involves brief attacks brought on by certain changes in head position.Other reasons can also be present such as reduced glucose in the blood, brain fever or brain T. B., congenital wounds in the head or lack of oxygen in case infant does not start breathing immediately after birth, brain tumor, internal wound due to accident. Treatment In some studies, vertigo associated with high triglycerides, diabetes mellitus, and hypoglycemia responded to dietary management of the underlying disorder. The herbs Ginkgo Biloba and ginger have also been used with moderate success abroad. Ginkgo thins the blood, which increases circulation in the brain and extremities. Acts as an antioxidant. May cause gastrointestinal upset, headaches, allergic skin reactions. Be careful of combining with other blood thinners. After some experience, author does not use Ginkgo based on the belief that what is available locally helps more than imported one. According to Indian ayurveda, following remedies can be suggested. Brahmi-ghrutam This is ghee made by combining four Medhya herbs with cow ghee. By taking this 1 – 2 tsp daily morning & evening will strengthen the brain centres responsible for balancing. Smruti Sagar Ras This is classical ras shastra formulation which has mercury, sulphur, hartal, Manashil and Tamrabhasma (Copper oxide). These are purified and three more herbs are added to them. Taking 1 tablet along with cow ghee daily morning and 1 in evening will cause removal of blockages in microchannels of the brain. Even small tumors get dissolved if present. Aswagandha Ksheer Pak Take five gram Aswagandha powder and mix with 1 cup milk and 1 cup water. Add two pinches Peeprimul powder. You can add a little sugar and cardamom to make it tasty. Boil on slow heat till one cup remains. Strain and drink warm. Do it twice a day. At breakfast time and at bedtime. Aswagandha has somniferum, which induces sleep. Peeprimul also aids sleep. Rich carbohydrate diet secrets Serotonin hormone which induces sleep. Sugar causes the Serotonic secretion. This entire preparation relaxes the brain microchannels and cells. This brings Vata dosha to balance. This preparation has been used by author on epilepsy as well as hysteria patients successfully. When taken after breakfast, does not induce sleep but a mild drowsiness comes. In case boiling daily is impossible due to lifestyle, or getting the powders is difficult, one can take Aswagandharishtam 3 tsp (15 ml) with equal water after lunch and dinner. IN that case one should also take Dasmularishtam in the same quantity and manner. Dasmularishtam is a powerful anti-vatic liquid medicine, and is especially useful for post-delivery regain of reproductive system of women. Lifestyle changes that may be helpful Head positions that bring on sudden, acute attacks of vertigo, particularly bending the neck back while looking up, should be avoided. In one report, for example, the head position used in salons for shampooing hair was associated with the onset of vertigo. According to one authority, certain chronic or repetitive body positions may produce painful nodules, called trigger points, in the muscles of the head and neck, which can lead to dizziness and possibly vertigo. These positions include forward bending of the neck as when sleeping on two pillows, backward neck bending as when painting a ceiling, and turning the neck to one side as in some reading positions. Please check if your exercise work outs do have such positions. Certain Panch Gavua medicines (Cow urine distillate and tablets made from the distillation residue) along with proper food management are also found useful in managing vertigo. However, these medicines are available only in India at present. They can be easily obtained from the website Govigyan.com Dr Bhate
Jean-Pierre Lefebvre
Dear Dr. Shirish Bhate, I am looking for some very good medicine against Vertigo. I myself stydied four years ayurveda in Belgium and I have a small practise in ayurvedic massage. So I do nasya, I massage myself with mahanarayan taila or nalpamaradi keram oil, I do shirodhara with Brahmi taila, feetd and head massage. I have trifhala and ashwaganda and I am on a vata pitta diëet. My prakruti is pitta - vata. I had an attack of Vertigo about six weeks ago for about two days afterwards I felt very light in the head and also pressure in the head, as if the brains wanted to upleft the brain-pan and also a lot of energy on the top of the head moving from front to the backside of the head, almost unbearable. I was and I still am very thirsty as never before especially at night, also the head feels very warm althoug the bloodpresure stays stable. I also experienced two times early in the morning somthing very auwful, like a demon tryied to enter my body, I felt extremly agressive and had no control over it, my whole fase was changing of shape and my eyes were like fireballs, also I felt in my right arm and leg, as if somebody was trying to take it over ( they made a scan of the head and everything is alright, no thumors or bleeding).I also practisch mantra meditation, the last two months I meditated much longer than I was used to before, because my meditations where so blessfull. Is it possible that the Kundaline is damaged due to this and maybe to much relieve of stress. Before the first attack About four weeks later I had again an attack of vertigo ( they call it possitioning vertigo) and eversince I still have the symptomes, also Tinnitus. So I think this is more like a Pitta Vertigo ( pachak pitta - prana vata). So I am looking for a very good ayurvedic medicine based on Bhasma's because their are very strong medicines, but you cannot find them here in Europe. In the vatic Vertigo you talk about the Smruti sagar ras, is this also oké for a pitta vertigo or will this enhance pitta to much? The same with Ginkgo Biloba? Yours Sincerely, Jean-Pierre.
