Guest guest
Vertigo accelerates in September-October One of the patients has sent a personal query giving detailed symptoms, pulse classification, life-style details, and other history. It is clear that the patient is suffering from vertigo. The discussion here is posted for comments/suggestion by other group members. The frequent fainting is termed Vertigo in modern science. Patient feels that world is going round him and looses balance. Has to lie down for few hours. Hyperacidity, loose motion after initial hard delivery, sometimes even watery motions, nose bleeding, headache, hemorrhagea, boils in the mouth are other symptoms infrequently experienced. When relaxes for few hours in cool surroundings, recovers a little. The ailment increases in intensity during Sept-Oct months as well as March-April. This fainting is slightly different from the epilepsy symptoms. Patient does not loose the sense of surroundings. Acharya Sushrut describes three reasons for this ailment: vitiation of Vata, Pitta and Rajas dosha. Rajas, Tamas and Satva are humors of the mind. The vertigo under Vata unbalance and rajas unbalance will be subject matter of some other post, since it is clear that this particular case falls under Pitta unbalance. Many patients of Vertigo find that the intensity increases in September-October. This is `Sharad' rutu in India. The monsoon has just ended and the excess heat removes seepage water in earth by vaporization. Due to chemical changes in the body as a result of Sun's transit through Leo (a fire sign ), Virgo, and Libra (debilitation of sun) Pitta dosha vitiates. In addition to fainting, hyperacidity, loose motions, nose bleeding, headache, hemorrhagea, boils in the mouth etc are the symptoms commonly experienced by those suffering from increased Pitta. Vertigo fainting, if it happens even when patient is relaxing on bed without much movement, they are due to Pitta. Ayurveda has several herbs and pharmacy medicines to balance Pitta. However, if fainting is mainly due to Pitta, `Chandrakalaras' is the best medicine in authors opinion. During the student days of this author, he suffered a educational year due to chronic headache and sometimes fainting. He was suggested this medicine by an eminent Guru and hence the author remembers this for lifetime. Several patients of Vertigo have been cured by this single medicine. Todays post is in the memory of Guru. It contains several cooling herbs and bhasmas, sixteen ingredients which basically purify blood by removing excess pitta and cool down the heat present in blood. Here heat does not mean temperature. This medicine is so much cooling that one feels the cold of the moonlight of full moon day. It cools down all inflammation of the body, the blood going through urine, stool, vomit, menses will be reduced due to its anti-hemorrage, blood-coagulant properties. Though it is highly cooling formulation, it does not reduce appetite, on the other hand, is itself an appetizer. If vertigo is due to Pitta, this medicine will cure it, no matter what intensity. Two tabs of 125 mg each for elders and one tab for children, morning and evening with sweetened milk, date crush or grape crush can be taken. Heem of cumin seeds, fennel seeds, coriander seeds can be taken twice or thrice a day as `Anupana'. Avoid Tomatoes, bakery items, fermented items, sandwiches, pizza, Pavbhaji, fried items. Reduce pickles, apalam(Papad). Chilies, garlic, onion, jaggery (not soaked), Bajra roti, Papaya, Drumstick, asfoetida, black pepper, Peeperimul. Avoid going out in hot sun and intoxicants like nicotine and alcohol. Though the above list of 'forbidden' items has attracdted comments from some members as too restrictive, author finds that a disciplined diet is 50% medicine itself.
