What is the difference between Zandu Yograj Guggul and Zandu's

Maha Yograj Guggul??

Hi,

Maha means Fort more powerful having some bhusma and it is more effective

compare to plain yograj guggulu.

Dear Sita,

1) Many ayurvedic medicines contains bhasmas of precious metals like

silver, gold etc.

This naturally increases their cost.

In order to cut cost many ayurvedic physicians used to omit this

particular costly elements while preparing the medicines.

Though not as effective as the original combination they used to

give good results as well.

Unfortunately over a period of time these combinations without the

costly elements came to be known by their original name.

Many of the well known ayurvedic company were established during

these period and they initially prepared the medicines without the

cotly elements.

Later on when they ventured to prepare the medicne as per original

text in order to differentiate between the ones containing the

costly elements they introduced prefixes like "Maha"

The original Yograj Guggul combination contains silver bhasma.

However over a period of time it was used without silver bhasma but

was reffered to as Yograj Guggul. Nowadays many companies prepare it

using the silver bhasma and this is reffered to as Maha-Yograj

Guggul.

2) There are also a few cases where an initial combination is

prescribed and immediately after another combination with a few

additions (mostly one or few of the costly elements) is mentioned in

the original texts. There if the original combination is named aaa

then the later combination is named maha aaa. For example: Narayan

oil and MahaNarayan oil. Though there are no costly elements

involved in MahaNarayan oil it contains an additional set of herbs

which improve the potency of Narayan oil.
