Guest guest
hi David, a few questions: 1. what tests were performed exactly? a renal function test looks at things like BUN, creatinine etc. but did you also check the urine itself? get some reagent strips and test the urine, looking at pH, leukocytes, proteins, glucose etc. even if these tests are negative bear in mind that the symptoms might be caused by a yeast infection, which are difficult to diagnose with lab tests. given the recurrent history of UTI i would suspect this as a strong possibility 2. was the urine allowed to sit for some time before testing? all standing urine typically develops a strong ammonia smell after a few minutes 3. does an ammonia smell also emanate from the skin/sweat? 4. have you done a liver function test? elevated ammonia can be a symptom of liver disease, with dire effects 5. what is the composition of the pt's diet? is there a strong emphasis on animal proteins? what's the pt's water intake like? note also that urea has an ammonia-like smell, and very likely the problem is related to this - excess urea from the breakdown of nitrogenous wastes. check the other eliminative organs esp. the liver, and try implementing an alkalizing approach to the diet, emphasizing lots of leafy greens and other vegetables, small quantities of lean animal protein and good quality whole grain carbs. given the possibility of yeast however avoid sugars, dairy, flour and fermented foods we would need more info to give feedback re: an Ayurvedic diagnosis or possible treatment one symptom does not make a pathology but you may want to give herbs to clear the kidneys and support the other organs (stomach, liver, bowel), chosen on the basis of which doshas you perceive to be out of whack best... Guest guest
Dear Todd: I am glad this topic was brought up. I was at the nursing home with mum. She had to go and pee, so I helped her to the toilet. I have noticed for quite sometime even before she went to NH that she has a very strong smell about her, as well as her urine, to the point it makes me gag. Anyway, my point here, is that when I took down her pants, and her panties, she had a white discharge, in the crotch her under wear. Now, my mother is 85, had a total hysterectomy in 1957 due to two tubal pregnancies. I honestly couldn't tell you when her last gyn was done, or a mammogram. Maybe they figure at her age and her currant history, what's a little cancer??? What is a good remedy for riding oneself of yeast. It couldn't hurt her, if I gave it to her. All her blood work done about a month ago was a clean bill of health. Kidney function, liver function, no diabetes.....etc. Much love, Bonnie
Guest guest
hi bonnie best i think is a sitz bath prepare a strong decoction with herbs that have an antifungal property, pour into a tub and have your mother sit in the tub for 15-20 minutes for this you need a large plastic tub so that that when your mother sits in it, the water completely covers her pelvis lots of herbs have antifungal properties - just the other day i treated a patient while on vacation simply by using local herbs, in this case western red cedar and oregon grape, harvested from the local woods., internally i used a tea of fireweed and made sure that no dairy/flour/sugar was consumed of course you won't be able to fin these herbs unless you live in the pacific NW one that i use in the clinic a lot is pau d'arco (taheebo), int and ext, with the approp. diet. changes other possibilities include barberry, neem, echinacea etc. symptoms usually abate in 2-3 days i often follow up treatment with an antifungal cream or salve applied over the vulva and just inside the vagina there are also suppositories that can be used overnight - i like Bezwecken Y Stat, but you can also make them yourself by mixing melted cocobutter and finely powdered herbal powders, or hardening medicated oils by melting beeswax into them best...
