Guest guest
Dear vaidyas, One of my friends (K/P) noticed an increase of hair in anormal places for a woman: chest, belly and chin. She thinks that it's associated with birth control pill so she stopped it but hair are still growing (slightly). Are there any specific treatment in this case ? Guest guest
hirsutism is caused by androgenization, i.e. excess levels of androgens the typical cause is excessive peripheral conversion of estrogens in the stroma of adipose cells thus the underlying mechanism here is obesity, and needs to be treated accordingly however, there are other causes including polycystic ovarian disease, an adrenal tumor, etc. these should be ruled out from an Ayurvedic perspective hirsutism is a kind of paittika disorder, the excess hair in women representing a male characteristic; thus using bitter cooling herbs to act on the liver can be helpful to conjugate and eliminate excess hormones; kapha also plays a role here, primarily when obesity is an underlying factor, and thus langhana (lightening) therapies are recommended; vata too, plays a role, in promoting the neoruoendocrinal dysfunction that results in hirsutism, especially when there is no obesity to treat this condition you will need to direct your attention to the symptoms associated with each dosha that said, the issue probably is related to the effects of the very powerful estrogens found in the OCs, and an underlying metabolic "defect" in dealing with them a medium term focus to reestablish a normal menstrual cycle with herbs that support the feminine essence (e.g. Shatavari, Peony, Dang gui) with liver herbs should restore things to normal i also would typically recommend omega 3s and vitamin b complex On Thursday, July 1, 2004, at 06:25 AM, ayurveda wrote: > Message: 3 > Wed, 30 Jun 2004 17:22:27 +0200 > "Corinne TESSIER" <tessier.corinne > hirsutism > > Dear vaidyas, > > One of my friends (K/P) noticed an increase of hair in anormal places > for a > woman: chest, belly and chin. > She thinks that it's associated with birth control pill so she stopped > it > but hair are still growing (slightly). > > Are there any specific treatment in this case ? > Caldecott todd www.toddcaldecott.com
Guest guest
Hello, I also have the condition PCOS - Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome - Your friend should do some research on this. She maybe lacking progesterone which is required to balance out her estrogen and testosterone. If she is obese, losing weight is recommended but is not always easy to acheive. Guest guest
When that happens it usually will reveal itself to too much testosterone, a male hormone, also present in woman, but to a lesser degree. When my mother had her Thyroid removed many years ago, she had hair on the chest, belly and back. No medication was ever given to her either. Guest guest
Thanks for your answers. This woman I was talking about told me a few days ago that she eats a lots of soya products (milk, yogurt, tofu etc). Could it be the cause of her problem? Corinne.
