Guest guest
hello vaidyas in the sutrasthana of the Ashtanga Hrdaya, 19/63-65, Vagbhata mentions three types of vasti therapy: karma vasti: alternating anuvasana and niruha vasti for 24 days, followed by five (or six) days of anuvasana kala vasti: alternating anuvasana and niruha vasti for 12 days, followed by three days of anuvasana yoga vasti: alternating anuvasana and niruha vasti for 6 days, followed by two days of anuvasana what Vagbhata doesn't make clear is why these different procedures are implemented. does it only relate to a respective greater, medium and lesser benefit of the treatment, or is there another specific reason, e.g. used in a krura, madhya and mrdu koshta, respectively? TIA... Caldecott todd www.toddcaldecott.com
Guest guest
Dear As you have mentioned there is no specific reason alloted to the use of Karma, Kala and Yoga Basti. What we can say is that is one of the ways in which types of Basti's are described. Depending on the manner in which ayurvedic texts are written we can infer that this type of separtion was done on 2 accounts: 1) Karma for Uttam Satva, Sanhanan etc. Kala for Madhyam Satva, Sanhanan etc Yoga for Heena Satva, Sanhanan etc. 2) Depending on the severity of the vitiation of the Doshas.
