dear durgesh

i missed the original thread, so forgive me if my comments are out of

place regarding smoking in Ayurveda, i'm not sure where you read this but it

is certainly in error.

Ayurveda only recommends dhuma with certain medical procedures (nasya,

neti) , or as prophylaxis a few times a week in kaphaja conditions;

further, the smoke doesn't need to be inhaled into the lungs, but can

be inhaled into the nose with the help of a funnel and then out the

mouth.

for all you nicotine addicts try tincture of Lobelia (20%) and Skullcap

(80%), 3-20 drops 3-8 times a day

Lobelia contains the alkaloid lobeline that mimics the activity of

nicotine but actually decreases the number of nicotine receptors over

time; Skullcap helps to keep your head on while going through the

cravings

this has worked with several patients, but because smoking is also a

psychological addiction, that last cigarette is a major hurdle that has

to be overcome with great resolve, clarity and compassion

tobacco is a sacred herb: if its used with reverence and respect it

will remain your friend

your addiction is a trap not just to you but to the plant spirit

in this respect it is your job to help the tobacco spirit become free

of its addiction to you, inasmuch as you think that it is you that is

addicted

perform a ritual with tobacco, and with a prayer sprinkle it into the

nearest river or ocean, into the waters of desire

free the spirit that is locked within you, and wish it compassion, joy

and happiness

your cravings are a manifestation of this deep sadness inside you that

wishes to be free

if your addiction is familial pattern perform a ritual at the gravesite

of the departed ancestor, or simply call these departed spirits into

your consciousness

offer them the tobacco with reverence and respect, and wish them

satisfaction, enlightenment, happiness and joy

do this on the new moon day, and thereafter every new moon day for a

year

then once a year on the new moon, the anniversary when you began this

shraddha, or ritual

doing so will pacify the kutumba dosha, the family dosha that maintains

the psychic imprints from one generation to another
